Music plays a huge part in life at Fair Oak. Every child is taught music in class by a member of the Hampshire Music Hub covering all aspects of the curriculum.
Singing is an extremely important part of our school. Mrs Welsh leads a weekly singing assembly where the children sing a wide range of songs, including rounds and songs in 2 part harmony and we provide many opportunities for singing solos in concert productions, assemblies and our yearly FOJ Factor and Fair Oak’s Got Talent, where our 10 finalists from lower school and upper school perform to the whole school.
We provide instrumental lessons for over 200 children, including brass, strings, woodwind, percussion and keyboard. Many of these children are part of after school music clubs including the Concert Band and choir who regularly perform at numerous concerts and competitions, including the National Festival of Music for Youth where we have been given the Outstanding Achievement and Highly Commended Awards on 3 occasions. As a result of this both the choir and band performed at the Royal Albert Hall at the last night of the Schools Prom.
We have close links with Wyvern Music Department with their musicians giving performances in our assemblies.
We perform with 200 children aged 6-16 in our pyramid vocal festival every year, working with professional singers and conductors including Karen Gibson, Gitika Partington, Greg Beardsall and Simon Chalk. We are also invited to take part in Wyvern’s art days and concerts. This year one of our pupils has been asked to play the part of Gretl in the Wyvern production of The Sound of Music.
We have just had a very successful annual school concert at the Berry Theatre in Hedge End celebrating Mr Theobald’s time at our school. We are thrilled that he will continue to take band practices every Friday as is our tradition.
