May Sports News - National Finals and Premier League Finals Reports!

Saturday 4th May

Our boys football team played their English Schools Football Association National Finals tournament as The South West England’s representative school today. Fair Oak began their campaign against Gerrards Cross Church Of England School from Buckinghamshire and after a slow start from Fair Oak, our opponents raced into a two goal lead. Fair Oak pulled one back in the second half but could not find an equaliser. Our second game against Gosforth Junior High Academy from Northumberland proved much more successful. Fair Oak put in a dominant display to run out convincing two nil winners which meant that a win in the final group game against Lowe’s Wong Junior School from Nottinghamshire would probably be enough to put us through. Fair Oak played calmly but effectively in this fixture despite our rather physical opponents and won deservedly by two goals to one. These results meant that Fair Oak topped the group on goal difference and would play Huntingdon Primary Academy of North Yorkshire in the semi-finals who were runners up in the other group.  In this fixture, our boys put in another calm, solid display to earn a place in the final with a great one nil win thanks to a cooly taken penalty. In the final, our opposition were our first opponents of the day, Gerrards Cross Church Of England School. In a tight game, both sides carved out chances but neither were able to take any. After a goalless period of extra time the match would be decided on penalties. Unfortunately, Fair Oak just missed out, losing four three. Despite this final heartache our boys should not feel disappointed in themselves. Fair Oak finished as National Runners Up – the second best school team in England and still have the Premier League Finals and the County Cup Final to play for! Well done boys, we are all so very proud of you!

Tuesday 7th May

Fair Oak entered a team into a year three and four golf tournament today which was held at Wildern. All participating teams worked their way around a series of stations which were designed to improve every element of their game from putting to driving with points being scored depending on how well the teams performed at each activity. At the end of the tournament when the team totals had been added together our pupils scored four hundred and thirty eight points which put them in third place overall. Well done to our golfers for a great overall team performance!

Monday 13th May

Fair Oak entered two teams into a lower school tennis tournament held at Swanmore Tennis Club. The standard of play was very high and all of our players should be proud of the way they performed. After all of the matches had been played, our B team finished in second place overall while our A team were competition winners with a one hundred percent record. This means that our A team will go through to the next round of competition which is a play off match for the opportunity to participate in the County Finals in Aldershot later in the school year!

Tuesday 14th May

Fair Oak entered a team into a year five and six golf tournament today which was held at Wildern. Just as for the year three and four tournament last week, all participating teams worked their way around a series of stations which were designed to improve every element of their game from putting to driving with points being scored depending on how well the teams performed at each activity. At the end of the tournament when the team totals had been added together our team finished in second place with a total of six hundred and twenty points. Well done to our golfers on another great overall team performance!

Thursday 16th May

Two teams were entered into a year three and four tag rugby tournament today held in Botley between schools from the local area. The competition took a league format with each team playing every other team. The side at the end with the most points would be crowned competition winners! After all of the matches had been played, Fair Oak B ended up in third place with seven points and Fair Oak A were tournament winners with twelve points and a one hundred percent record! Well done to both of our teams who performed brilliantly throughout the event.

Tuesday 21st May

Our boys football team played their Premier League Primary Stars National Finals tournament today at Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton as Southampton Football Clubs representatives. The team began their campaign against the representative team of Cardiff and our boys put in an assured display, running out winners by two goals to nil. Next up our boys faced Leicester and despite playing most of the game in our opponents half, Fair Oak could not find a way through Leicester’s well organised defence and a nil nil draw was the final outcome. In the third group match, Watford were well beaten by two goals to nil, however the woodwork twice saved The Hornets from conceding further. These results meant that Fair Oak would play Manchester United in the final group game needing a win to progress to the semis. Anything less and it would be our opponents who would make it through. In a pulsating match, it was Fair Oak who took the lead only to be pegged back to one all. Almost immediately however, Fair Oak regained the lead before Man United equalised for a second time. The match was rather open at this stage with either team looking like they could win it but unfortunately it was United who scored a third to book their place in the semi-finals. Despite just missing out on that semi-final, our team should not feel disappointed in themselves. They represented Fair Oak brilliantly again in a highly competitive National Finals event – the whole of the Fair Oak family is so proud of all of those who took part. Well done!
