November Sports News!

Tuesday 3rd November

Twenty six pupils were given the exciting opportunity to test out their climbing skills on the themed climbing walls at Rock Up in Whiteley. The pupils had great fun trying out what was for many a new sport. The centre offers the chance to scale multiple climbing walls all of which tower over twenty five feet high! There are different routes up each one depending on the level of challenge the climber wants to have. All of the pupils who participated enjoyed their day and many were keen to try this exhilarating sport again in the future.

Friday 6th November

A group of twelve pupils participated in a skiing session at the dry ski slope in Southampton today. The children were taught the basics such as turning under control and stopping. The Fair Oak pupils listened to instructions brilliantly and as a result, they all made great progress. Hopefully we will be seeing one or two of them at future Winter Olympics!

Tuesday 10th November

Fair Oak entered four teams into a year five and six boys football tournament held at Wyvern between local schools. The teams were split into two groups with the winners of each group playing in the final and the runners up in each group playing for third place. Pool One was made up of Fair A, Fair Oak B and Upham. In Pool Two were Fair Oak C, Fair Oak D and Durley. Each team played every other team in their group twice. After all group matches had been played the winners of Group One were Fair Oak A. Fair Oak B narrowly lost out on second spot to Upham on goal difference. In Group Two, the winners were Fair Oak C with Durley finishing second and Fair Oak D in third. This meant that the final was between Fair Oak A and Fair Oak C. This match was an extremely tight affair and despite some heroic defending from Fair Oak C, Fair Oak A won the game with nearly the last kick of the game. All of our teams should be proud of themselves for the way they played and the way they conducted themselves throughout the tournament. Well done boys!

Thursday 12th November

Today our netball A and B teams played their first fixture of the season against two well drilled Durley teams. For many members of our B team it was the first time they had played a competitive game so they did well to keep the score down to eight nil to Durley. Our A team fared slightly better but also lost their game, this time by four goals to one.

Tuesday 17th November

Fair Oak entered four teams into a year four, five and six girls football tournament held at Wyvern between local schools. The teams were split into two groups with the winners of each group playing in the final and the runners up in each group playing for third place. Pool One was made up of Fair A, Fair Oak B, Fair Oak C and Stoke Park A. In Pool Two were Fair Oak D, Upham, Durley and Stoke Park B. Each team played every other team in their group once. After all group matches had been played the winners of Group One were Fair Oak A with second place going to Fair Oak B. Fair Oak C finished in a respectable third place in the group. In Group Two, the winners were Durley with Fair Oak D finishing as runners up. This meant that the final would be between Durley and Fair Oak A with Fair Oak B playing Fair Oak D for third place. The final turned out to be a rather one sided affair which our girls won by three goals to nil! Fair Oak B managed to take third place with a one nil win against Fair Oak D. All of our teams should be proud of the way they played and the way they conducted themselves throughout the tournament. Well done girls!

In Group Two, the winners were Upham B who just pipped Fair D to top spot on goal difference! Fair Oak B finished closely behind the top two in third place. This meant that the final would be between Fair Oak A and Upham B. Fair Oak A dominated proceedings from the start and won the game comfortably by four goals to nil! The third place play off match between Fair Oak C and Fair Oak D was an equally one sided match with Fair Oak C also running out four nil winners. Well done at all of our boys who played brilliantly throughout the whole tournament!

Friday 27th November

A group of twelve pupils visited Banister Park Bowling Club for a bowls taster session today. The children were taught the basics such as how the scoring works, types of delivery, ditch rules and tactics. The Fair Oak pupils listened to instructions brilliantly and as a result, they all made great progress and had fun!

Five of our top year six cross country runners had previously qualified for the Eastleigh and Winchester District trials which were held today at Fleming Park. All of our athletes did brilliantly, despite running against the best year six and seven runners from the area. In the girls race, our athletes finished thirty ninth and fifty third. In the boys race, our runners finished together in positions fifty one, fifty two and fifty three. This really is a great achievement. Well done to our competitors!
