July Sports News

Monday 8th July

The Quad Kids county final was a terrific day of sporting endeavour. The children challenged themselves to produce personal best performances in the four events (80m sprint, standing long jump, vortex howler throw and 600m run) at the Winchester athletic stadium. The children got off to a great start in the sprints with lots of first place finishes in their heats, this was followed up with a few children get close to 2 metres (a great target) in the standing long jump. The wet weather did prove challenging at times, but there was enough dry points during the day to dry out. The vortex howler throw was next up and there were notable performances from Leah and Odhran. The final event was the 600m and without a doubt through the eight different Fair Oak heats overall we had the top finishing runners. When the points were total up for the whole event Fair Oak finished 4th out of 17 teams an excellent result I think you'll agree.

Year 3 Multisports Event and Year 5 Sports Leaders

On Tuesday 16th July, a group of Year 3 pupils attended a Multisports Festival at Botley Recreational Ground. They rotated around a variety of different skill-based stations led by Year 5 pupils. The boys and girls represented our school superbly.

Our Year 5 sports leaders were equally as impressive, leading their activities with confidence and showing excellent communication skills. We look forward to them supporting our younger pupils to enjoy activities on the playground soon.

Year two visited us today from Fair Oak Infants to play scatterball matches against our year three pupils. The games were competitive but were played in a lovely spirit. All participants enjoyed themselves and many new friendships were forged! We look forward to welcoming the year two pupils to our school in September!

Wednesday 17th July

Today our cricketers played their final event of the year, the Hampshire Cup. The competition was played at Fair Oak Cricket Club and involved schools from around the county. Fair Oak entered two teams. Our B team began with a loss to Droxford and then a narrow defeat to Knightwood in their second group match. Fair Oak A opened their account with a close nine run victory over South Farnborough and then beat Park Gate by twelve runs. These results meant that our B team would play South Farnborough in their final fixture and our A team would play Droxford in the final. Our B team fought hard throughout their encounter but fell just short finishing on 197 for 8 while South Farnborough scored 214 for five. This meant that Fair Oak B finished in sixth place overall. In the final, Droxford batted first and finished with a competitive total of 262 runs. In reply, Fair Oak batted sensibly but never really got going and ended twenty six runs short of victory on 237 to finish the cricket season as county runners up. Well done to all of our cricketers who represented the school brilliantly today!
