April Sports News

Tuesday 14th April
On Tuesday 14th April, a group of Year 3 and 4 pupils attended a Tri-Golf Festival at Wildern School. Tri-golf is a fun alternative version of golf, designed for primary school children. As a more energetic version of the sport, it enables children to practise different golf shots and build a strong foundation. Our team rotated around different stations, collectively scoring points. A huge well done to our golfers, who represented our school beautifully – Mr Stredwick was extremely proud of each and every one of them!

Monday 20th April
Our netball team played in their County Finals tournament on Monday 20th April, having previously qualified through our area event. Morning groups were randomly selected, and Fair Oak began with a comprehensive victory over Highbury. In the next fixture, Velmead ran out winners in a very closely fought match. This was followed by a draw against Weeke and another victory over North Baddesley. These results meant that Fair Oak qualified for the main tournament in the afternoon and were pitted against the other successful teams from the morning stage of the competition.

Unfortunately, despite performing superbly throughout, our team lost their first four matches, despite playing very well in each fixture. Fair Oak ended the event on a high note with an excellent victory over Ryde to finish in 9th place overall, which is a superb achievement. Well done to all of those involved – you represented our school brilliantly!

Tuesday 21st April
On Tuesday 21st April, a team of pupils visited Hamble Primary School, alongside several other local schools, to take part in an exciting orienteering event. Set within Hamble Primary’s expansive and picturesque grounds, the day offered a fantastic opportunity for children to develop their navigation skills. In addition to the orienteering challenges, pupils enjoyed a range of engaging activities designed to build confidence and teamwork. The experience was rounded off with a forest school session in the wooded area, giving everyone the chance to explore and learn in a natural environment.

Tuesday 28th April
Some of our cricketers took part in a tournament on Tuesday 28th April against schools from the local area. Fair Oak entered two teams into the event. Our A team began with a 36-run victory over Durley and followed that up with a close 11-run win against Fair Oak B. After losing to Fair Oak A, our B team then faced Durley, and it was the visitors who ran out winners by 30 runs. Well done to all of those involved – we certainly have a lot of cricketing talent within the school!
