These results meant that Fair Oak 2 would play Liss for seventh place and Fair Oak 1 would play in the final against Queen’s Inclosure. Fair Oak 2 played their fixture first. The match was a really tight affair which could have gone either way but it was Liss who came out on top by one try to nil. The final was also a great match and was really close, with momentum swinging one way and then the other. However, when the final whistle blew, it was Queen’s Keep who were victorious by three tries to one. Both of our fantastic teams should be so proud of themselves for playing consistently brilliant rugby and for also representing our school with pride, passion and fairness throughout. Well done!

Earlier in the year, our hockey teams had qualified for the county finals and so today 18 pupils from Year 5 and 6 travelled to Basingstoke to take part in the finals event.

The competition was strong and the standard was very high. Our A team had a super start to the morning, finishing second in our group, leading to a competitive afternoon. Our B team played the strongest teams in their first three matches but didn’t let their heads drop. The determination and team work throughout the day was exceptional.

We finished a very respectable 6th in Hampshire! We are so proud of our hockey players! A huge well done to all pupils and a big thank you to our wonderful parent helpers for ensuring the day ran smoothly.

Thursday 18th June

Today our girls and boys cricket teams played in a South Eastleigh and Winchester cricket tournament against schools from the local area. Fair Oak entered two teams into each event. Both the overall winners for the girls event and the boys event would qualify for the County Finals which take place in the next few weeks at the Utilita Bowl!

Our boys A team beat both Berrywood B and Wellstead convincingly while the B team began with a good victory over Hambledon, but lost two close matches against Berrywood A and Droxford. These results meant that Fair Oak A finished top of their group and would play Droxford in the semi finals. Fair Oak B just missed out on qualifying for the knock out stages. In the semi final match, Fair Oak A beat Droxford comfortably before meeting Berrywood A in the final. This match was again dominated by Fair Oak who ran out winners by 61 runs!

Our girls A team won both of their matches. The first victory was a close 3 run win against Droxford and the second victory was more comfortable, a 45 run win against Fair Oak B. In their other match, Fair Oak B lost by 27 runs to Droxford. This meant that Fair Oak A topped the table and will join the boys A team at the Utilita Bowl! To celebrate their success, the girls played a friendly against Hambledon boys and gained an extremely satisfying victory!

Well done to all of those who participated in the event today!

Monday 29th June

Our girls cricket team played their much anticipated county finals event at the Utilita Bowl today. The opposition was tough throughout the competition with only the best teams from around the county taking part. Fair Oak began with a loss against a strong Abbotswood A team and then lost a close encounter with Oakley. Abbotswood B were our opponents in the third match and unfortunately, our girls lost another extremely tight fixture. Success came in our final match against Binsted Primary School. Our girls played really well to finally get the result they could easily have got in their previous two matches had the rub of the green gone their way. Well done to all of those who took part and represented Fair Oak school with such enthusiasm and positivity!

Tuesday 30th June

It was the turn of our boys to take part in their cricket county finals event at the Utilita Bowl today. Again, the opposition was the best from around the county but in the first match against Hook with Warsash B, Fair Oak ran out winners by 46 runs. In the second match, our opponents were St John’s and it was they who won a close encounter by 29 runs. This put Fair Oak through to the quarter finals as one of the best group runners up. Our quarter final opposition were Awbridge. Fair Oak batted first and played some great attacking shots but lost wickets at what seemed like crucial moments. In response, some tight bowling early on from Fair Oak piled the pressure on Awbridge but they managed to overcome this to win in the end by 76 runs. Well done to our boys who played with a smile on their faces throughout a great day!

It was a busy day today as a group of Year 5 pupils attended a sports leadership workshop at Botley Primary School. The aim of the workshop was to create a group of sports ambassadors who will be able to help lead activities for younger pupils during lunchtimes from September. Our pupils demonstrated all the attributes needed to become great leaders; confidence, empathy, motivation, and communication skills. We look forward to them supporting our younger pupils to enjoy activities on the playground soon.
