Year 5

We are delighted to welcome you and your children to Year 5.

Welcome to our Year 5 page! The children are confident, engaged learners who consistently show commitment, respect and resilience in all aspects of school life. We are proud of the maturity and enthusiasm they bring to their learning and look forward to supporting them as they continue to grow throughout Year 5.

Uniform
We kindly remind all families of the importance of children attending school in the correct school uniform each day. Wearing the full, correct uniform helps pupils feel a sense of pride and belonging as well as supports our high standards across the school. The current expectations around school uniform are displayed on our website under school uniform.

KNOWLE PARK TREE PLANTING

We are pleased to let you know that on Friday 27th February, Year 5 will be attending a tree planting session at Knowle Park.

During the session, the children will be planting trees to help improve biodiversity and strengthen the natural landscape for the benefit of our local community. It is a wonderful opportunity for the children to take part in a meaningful environmental project within our local area.

The children will be accompanied by school staff throughout the visit.

As this is an outdoor activity, please ensure your child comes to school with:

  • A waterproof coat

  • Gloves

  • Suitable footwear

From our experience last year, the ground was very muddy and wellies were definitely the best option. Please could children bring wellies (or other sturdy footwear) to school in a bag so that they can change into them for the session and then back into clean footwear once they return to school.

Thank you for your support. We are looking forward to a rewarding and enjoyable experience for the children.

Homework

Year 5 will have their homework given out on a Friday to be handed in and completed by the next Friday.

There will be 10 spellings (see below) to be tested on the following Friday, 20 minutes to be completed on Times Table Rockstars and 5 sessions of reading (of at least 5 minutes each) which will be recorded in the pupil reading record which will be checked by the teacher each Friday.
