Year 6

We are delighted to welcome you and your children to Year 6.

We are excited to start a new year with this wonderful new cohort of children: they have made a fantastic start already! Classes have settled really well and the children have already demonstrated how hardworking, respectful and resilient they can be – a brilliant start to their final year of primary school.

Uniform
We kindly remind all families of the importance of children attending school in the correct school uniform each day. Wearing the full, correct uniform helps pupils feel a sense of pride and belonging as well as supports our high standards across the school. The current expectations around school uniform are displayed on our website under school uniform.

Homework

All homework is set on a weekly basis and is due the following week. This gives pupils the chance to ask for help if needed as well as time to complete it.

Children have been given their log-on details and have written these in their reading records. Class teachers have also shown children how to log on and what this will look like.

FRIDAY

Arithmetic homework will be set on a Friday and handed to the children. The due date for this is the following Friday.  This weeks arithmetic homework can be found here.

Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) will continue, with the expectation that children complete 25 minutes per week. This expectation may change as the year goes on for those who consistently score 20/20 in their Soundchecks in school.

Reading continues to be an important focus and children are expected to read at least five times per week, recording this in their reading records.

Children will have the opportunity to visit the school library weekly on a Wednesday as well as being issued a ‘Must Read’ shortly. For those reading banded books, these should now have been allocated.

Trips, Treats and Letters

Over the course of the year, we will send out information regarding various trips or treats we are organising.  Some of these letters were sent out before the summer to give as much notice as possible:

PGL
This trip is now available for payment on Arbor.  More information about this trip can be found here.

YOUNG VOICES

We are very much looking forward to the Young Voices event in The O2 which is fast approaching - we hope your children are too! You will find the plans for the day and any additional information that we need by clicking here.

END OF YEAR PRODUCTION
This year, our year 6 production will be Moana. In preparation for this, we will be sharing audition material with children this week.  This can also be found by clicking here. There is no expectation for children to rehearse or practise this over the break, but with several children already showing a keen interest, we thought we would share it now.

SATS PARENTS INFORMATION EVENING
It was lovely to see so many parents at our information evening on the 12th January. For those that were not able to attend, you can view the presentation here.

YEAR 6 PARENTS EVENING
We are pleased to provide details of Year 6 class Parents’ Evening meetings. These will take place on the 3rd and 4th February and appointments are to be booked using Arbor. Bookings will ‘go live’ in Arbor on Tuesday 20th January at 9.30am and will remain open until 11am on Monday 2nd February. Further information can be found on the letter here.
