Big Walk and Wheel Event

Fair Oak Junior School will again be participating in this year's Walk Wheel Cycle Trust’s Big Walk And Wheel which is the UK’s largest inter-school cycling, walking and scooting challenge. The aim of this event is to inspire pupils, staff and parents to choose human power for their journey to school. Walking will be counted alongside cycling and scooting.
The Walk Wheel Cycle Trust’s Big Walk And Wheel will run for 10 days from 16 March to 27 March 2026 and is open to all primary and secondary schools in the UK. On each day, schools compete to see who can get as many of their pupils, staff and parents cycling, walking or scooting to school. Journeys will be recorded and schools will select their best five days. This information will determine our final overall position against all other participating schools.
If your child decides to ride in to school during the Big Walk And Wheel, they will need to park their bikes at the bike sheds before heading to their classroom.
In preparation for the big event, Bike It John from the Walk and Wheel Cycle Trust will be in school on the morning of Wednesday 11th March to carry out a Bike Doctor session. John and his team will perform a free basic bike check on all bikes ridden on that day.
Please remember that all pupils need a cycling permit to cycle to school. Permit application letters can be collected from Mr Stredwick or you can download this below.
Thank you for your continued support.
