We are delighted to launch the annual Fair Oak Junior School Read Aloud Competition, now in its fourth year, which celebrates children’s reading, confidence and oracy skills through an enjoyable whole-school challenge. Pupils will select a short passage from a published fiction book and take part in a series of class, year-group and school finals, with all children encouraged to participate at a level that feels right for them.

Over the coming weeks, staff will introduce the competition in assemblies and support children in school, and we kindly ask parents and carers to read the letter below and support their child at home by helping them choose an appropriate text and practise reading aloud with confidence and expression.

As the final of the 2026 Read Aloud competition approaches, I wanted to say thank you and congratulations to every child who has taken part in this competition. It has been amazing to see the talent throughout the school. Good luck to our finalists:
