Music Lessons

Music Lessons at Fair Oak Junior School

At Fair Oak Junior School, we take great pride in the wide range of opportunities we offer children to learn a musical instrument in partnership with Hampshire Music Service.

Learning to play an instrument has many benefits. It supports learning across the wider curriculum, develops both sides of the brain, and encourages children to participate, enjoy, achieve, and collaborate. Music can also build confidence, perseverance and creativity while giving children a lifelong skill.

Instrument Lessons Available

We are currently arranging music tuition for the 2026–2027 academic year and are delighted to offer lessons across the school.

Children can choose from a range of instruments, including:

  • Brass: trumpet, horn, trombone

  • Woodwind: flute, clarinet, saxophone

  • Strings: violin

  • Other instruments: keyboard, drums and guitar

Lessons are delivered by specialist tutors from Hampshire Music Service.

Lesson Structure and Cost

The cost of lessons for the next academic year will be £305.00
This fee is based on a guaranteed minimum of 30 lessons throughout the year.

Payment is due by Friday 18th September 2026, through your Arbor account.

Lessons take place during the school day and operate on a weekly rota system so that pupils do not miss the same part of a curriculum lesson each week.

Please note:

  • The commitment is for the full academic year.

  • Payment should be made within the first two weeks of the Autumn term.

  • Lessons cannot begin until full payment has been received.

How to Apply

If you would like your child to take part, please complete the application form using the link on the top right of this page, by Friday 8th May 2026. Please note that submitting this application confirms your child’s enrolment in the selected music lesson.

This deadline allows us to confirm the number of lessons required and book tutors through Hampshire Music Service, whose teachers are in high demand across the county.

Important Information

1. Commitment
Lessons are booked for the entire academic year. Refunds cannot be issued if a pupil decides to stop lessons part way through the year.

2. Lesson Timetable
Pupils are responsible for remembering their weekly lesson time. A copy of the timetable will be provided for them to take home.

3. Practice
Regular practice at home and completion of the record book are essential to help pupils make good progress.

4. Instruments
Families will need to provide an instrument. This can either be purchased privately or hired through the Hampshire Music Service instrument hire scheme.

Parents hiring an instrument will need to sign a hire agreement and take responsibility for its care.

Our Musical Tradition

We are proud of the strong musical tradition at Fair Oak Junior School and the many pupils who go on to continue music at secondary school and in local bands and ensembles. By encouraging young musicians today, we help ensure that music continues to thrive within our school community for years to come.

We look forward to hearing from you.
