Year 4
We are delighted to welcome you and your children to Year 4.
Welcome to our Year 4 page! The children have settled confidently into their learning and consistently demonstrate the positive values of hard work, respect and resilience. We are proud of the enthusiasm they show each day and look forward to supporting them as they continue to develop throughout Year 4.
Uniform
We kindly remind all families of the importance of children attending school in the correct school uniform each day. Wearing the full, correct uniform helps pupils feel a sense of pride and belonging as well as supports our high standards across the school. The current expectations around school uniform are displayed on our website under school uniform.
Year 4 PE Days
Please note the days on which your child will have PE this year:
Jaguar, Koala, Panda and Rhino Class - Monday
Turtle Class - Friday
Homework
Home learning will be set each Friday and weekly spellings will be available on the school website (see below).
In addition, children are required to read with an adult at least five times per week, and class teachers will check and sign reading diaries each Friday. We fully appreciate how busy life can be, but any time spent listening to or reading with your child will support their learning and benefit them enormously.
Spellings
Please find below the spellings which will be tested on this week. Students will be aware what group of spellings they are working on.
PLEASE NOTE: SPELLINGS WILL BE SET IN CLASS THIS WEEK, SO PAPER COPIES OF SPELLINGS WILL BE SENT HOME WITH THE CHILDREN.

ROMAN DAY
On Thursday 21st May and Friday 22nd May, we are delighted to be holding a Roman day at school for the year four children to consolidate their learning about the ‘Rampaging Romans’.
As part of this day, ‘Portals to the Past’ (an immersive history workshop company) will be visiting us. The children will get a glimpse into the life of a Roman and get to act essential roles alongside Iggy as he tells all the historical events of the Roman era. In addition to the drama event, the children will be taking part in a variety of Roman activities, including learning to read and write Roman numerals and making their own Roman sandals. We are looking forward to a very exciting day.
Due to the size of the year group, our visiting Roman will make 2 visits in order to cover all 5 classes. The days for the classes are listed below: Turtle, Koala and Jaguar will be on Thursday 21st May and Rhino and Panda on Friday 22nd May.
To fully immerse the children in the experiences of the day, it would be fantastic if the children could come to school dressed as a Roman - the teachers will be joining in too! The children only come dressed as a Roman on the date of their Roman day (see above).
To enable this super day to take place, we will need a voluntary contribution of £5.50. Payments can be by logging onto your Arbor account under trips.
If insufficient contributions are received to cover costs, then the event may not happen.
Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)
Year 4 children will complete the statutory Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) from the 1st to the 12th June 2026. The online check assesses recall of times tables up to 12 × 12 and will take place in school in a calm and supportive environment. Children will continue practising in class, and parents can support at home through regular times tables practice and weekly TTRS sessions. Full details are available here.
