Year 6
We are delighted to welcome you and your children to Year 6.
Welcome to our Year 6 page! As the children work through their final year with us, they continue to demonstrate maturity, resilience and a strong sense of responsibility. We are proud of the positive role models they are becoming and look forward to supporting them as they prepare for the next stage of their learning journey.
Uniform
We kindly remind all families of the importance of children attending school in the correct school uniform each day. Wearing the full, correct uniform helps pupils feel a sense of pride and belonging as well as supports our high standards across the school. The current expectations around school uniform are displayed on our website under school uniform.
Year 6 PE Days
Please note the days on which your child will have PE this year:
Nightingale, Hawking, Storey, Attenborough Class - Tuesday
King Class - Friday
Homework
All homework is set on a weekly basis and is due the following week. This gives pupils the chance to ask for help if needed as well as time to complete it.
MONDAY
SPAG.com
Children have been given their log-on details and have written these in their reading records. Class teachers have also shown children how to log on and what this will look like.
Spellings
There are no spellings set for this week.
FRIDAY
Arithmetic homework will be set on a Friday and handed to the children. The due date for this is the following Friday. There is no arithmetic homework for this week.
Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) will continue, with the expectation that children complete 25 minutes per week. This expectation may change as the year goes on for those who consistently score 20/20 in their Soundchecks in school.
Reading continues to be an important focus and children are expected to read at least five times per week, recording this in their reading records.
Children will have the opportunity to visit the school library weekly on a Wednesday as well as being issued a ‘Must Read’ shortly. For those reading banded books, these should now have been allocated.
Year 6 – Relationship and Health Education (RHE)
This half-term, Year 6 pupils will take part in Relationships and Health Education (RHE) lessons that build on their previous learning about puberty. The unit will cover the physical and emotional changes that occur during puberty, including the menstrual cycle, menstrual products, and wet dreams, using age-appropriate resources and discussion. Lessons will be delivered in a safe, respectful environment where pupils can ask questions and access support if needed. Further information, including details of lesson content and resources, can be found in the full letter here.
Trips, Treats and Letters
Over the course of the year, we will send out information regarding various trips or treats we are organising.
