Aims

At Fair Oak Junior School we provide exciting and challenging learning opportunities within maths to enable pupils to consolidate skills as well as stimulating their problem solving, calculating and reasoning skills.

We equip pupils with a powerful set of tools which allows them to understand and actively engage with the world around them.

Planning

We base our planning on the new 2014 curriculum. This curriculum enables us to raise standards and personalise learning so all our pupils can reach their full potential. The new curriculum is based on 7 domains which include:

  • Number and Place Value
  • Addition and Subtraction
  • Multiplication and Division
  • Fractions
  • Measures
  • Geometry
  • Statistics

All 7 domains are covered every half term, this enables the pupils to consolidate previous learning but also give opportunities for new learning challenges.

Homework

Maths homework will be set most weeks but this should be supported by additional experiences in the home.  We often set tasks from the MyMaths website. (MyMaths can now be accessed on tablets and mobiles through the Puffin Academy Flash Browser.)

Problem Solving Mornings

We invite parents into school on these occasions to be active participants and supporters of their child’s learning.
