July 2019 Sports News

Tuesday 2nd July

Today our boys cricket team played their County Finals Tournament at The Ageas Bowl. The team had previously qualified by winning a competition at The Lapstone Park playing fields. The competing sides were split into groups with every one playing every other school in their pool with the most successful teams making it through to the semi-finals. Fair Oak began with a comfortable win against Mayville High and followed that up with another good win against Queens Enclosure. Next up were Knightwood who posted a competitive 278 for 3. In response, Fair Oak batted well to win by two runs with a total of 280 for 2. In the final group match, Fair Oak won again, this time against Halterworth which meant that they qualified for the semi-final with a one hundred percent record! In that fixture, Abbostwood were the opponents. Fair Oak batted first and posted a competitive total of 255 for 2. The Abbotswood team looked to have fallen just short of their target however, a six off the last ball of the match meant that they just sneaked through by four runs to the final. Our boys should be proud of their efforts today in reaching the semi-finals of the County competition. Well done boys!

Two teams were entered into a lower school cricket tournament held at the Lapstone playing fields. The tournament was a league format with each team playing every other team. The side with the most points at the end of the event would be crowned the overall winners. After all of the fixtures had been completed, Fair Oak A finished in fourth place while Fair Oak B finished in seventh. Well done to both of our teams for a great performance!

Wednesday 3rd July

Today was the turn of our girls to play their County Finals Tournament at The Ageas Bowl. Just like the boys, the team had previously qualified by winning a competition at The Lapstone Park playing fields. The competing sides were split into groups with every one playing every other school in their pool with the most successful teams making it through to the semi-finals. Fair Oak began with a narrow defeat to Awbridge and that was followed up with two more defeats to a very strong Hordle side and then Greenfields. These results meant that our girls missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals but they were still able to fit in one more friendly match against Springhill! Our team should be really proud of their efforts today. They played the game in the right spirit throughout the event and never gave up. Well done girls!

Friday 5th July

Our boys cricket team made the journey to play away to Park Gate this afternoon in the quarter final of the Hampshire Cup. Fair Oak won the toss and elected to bowl first. Fair Oak bowled well and restricted the home side to 222 for 8. Fair Oak batted sensibly in reply and ended with 252 for 5 to book their place in the finals afternoon at Havant Cricket Club later in the month!

Tuesday 9th July

The Fair Oak development athletics team travelled to Royal Victoria Country Park to participate in a competition amongst local schools. The athletes had to perform a number of events. Points were awarded to teams depending on where their athletes came in each of these events. The Fair Oak team performed superbly throughout and really enjoyed their day! Well done to all of our outstanding athletes.

Fair Oak entered three teams into a rounders tournament held today on our school field. The competition took a league format where every team played every other team. Wednesday 10th July

The Year 5 County Cricket Finals took place today at West Hill Park School in Titchfield. Both our A and B teams were participating. The competing teams were split into groups with each team playing every other team in their pool. The winners of the pools would go through to the semi-finals along with the best runner up. Fair Oak B began with a loss to Hook A but then picked up a superb three run victory over a very good Sarisbury side. In their final pool game, Abbotswood proved too strong for our B team who therefore missed out on the semi-finals. Our A team began their campaign with a comfortable forty one run win against Hook B but then followed that up with a close two run defeat to Springhill A, the winning runs coming off the last ball of the match! In their final group game, Fair Oak produced a fine display to beat Droxford by a massive one hundred and two runs. These results meant that Fair Oak qualified for the semi-final and would face Abbotswood. In this match, Fair Oak won the toss and elected to bat first. Tight Abbotswood bowling restricted Fair Oak to just 209 for 2. In reply, Abbotswood took control and finished with an impressive 280 for 1. Well done to all of our participating cricketers who should feel proud of the way they represented our school today.

Thursday 18th July

Our boys cricket team played their County Cup Finals day today at Havant Cricket Club. In the semi-final Fair Oak were drawn against Abbotswood which would be a difficult contest. Fair Oak batted first and were restricted to 240 for 6 but some tight Fair Oak bowling really put the pressure on Abbotswood early on in their innings, but eventually their strong batting line up began to take control and they finished on an impressive total of 313 for 4 which meant that Fair Oak would play off for third place against Greenfields of Fleet. In this match, Fair Oak fielded first and some good shot making saw Greenfields post a competitive 298 for 4. In response, Fair Oak were positive from the start but unfortunately lost wickets at regular intervals, ending on 268 for 6. Despite these results, credit must go to the Fair Oak boys who played brilliantly throughout the competition and ended the season participating in yet another County Finals event. Well done to all of those who took part!
