San Diego Zoo - Live Cams
At the end of March, hedgehogs start to emerge from hibernation. They are normally very hungry after their long sleep so they are often easier to spot.
This project pack includes a number of activities for you to work through with your child(ren). It looks at hedgehogs themselves and also information about how they fit into a number of food chains.
We suggest you work through the materials in this order:
What is a food chain? – watch this short video courtesy of BBC Bitesize https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zbnnb9q/articles/zwbtxsg
Play the “Woodland Food Chain Challenge” to see how many food chains you can find that include the hedgehog. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zbnnb9q/articles/zsphrwx
Find out some facts about hedgehogs by looking through the “hedgehogs PowerPoint” included in this pack.
Choose the appropriate level of reading comprehension (1, 2 or 3 stars), read through the text and complete the answer sheet. (Parents – the answers are provided in another folder within the pack).
Have some fun making the “Role Play Masks”, “Leaf Hedgehog Crafts” and the yummy “Hedgehog biscuits”.
For an extra challenge, try writing a poem, a piece of creative writing, or draw a picture of hedgehog. There are a number of page borders you can print out if you wish.
Don’t forget to share your creations on Purple Mash!
