April Sports News!

Tuesday 21st April

Fair Oak entered two teams into a mixed hockey tournament involving many local schools held at Trojans. The participating teams were split into two pools with the winners of each pool going forward to represent the area at the prestigious Hampshire School Games in Aldershot on 19th June. Both of our teams played superbly with some quick skilful hockey on display. Our B team ended up with six points with a record of two wins and two defeats from their four matches. These results meant they finished a creditable third in their pool. Our A team, who were placed in the other pool, won three matches and drew their other game which meant that they topped their group with a total of ten points! Well done to all of our players from both the A and B teams for playing brilliantly throughout! We really look forward to representing our area in June!

Wednesday 22nd April

A very young Fair Oak girls football team was selected to play an away match in Petersfield against Herne Junior School. In an entertaining match, Fair Oak raced into a three nil lead only for Herne to stage a strong come back to bring the score to three two to the visitors. However, Fair Oak made sure of the game by adding a fourth in the second half and then comfortably saw the rest of the match out. Well done to the team for a fine away win!

Friday 24th April

Hook with Warsash were the visitors today to play our girls football team in a friendly fixture. Again, a very young Fair Oak side was selected but despite their inexperience they played extremely well. Fair Oak took the lead with a well taken finish from the edge of the box but the visitors fought back strongly and were two one up at half time. Fair Oak battled back after the break and in an exciting second half which saw our goal keeper make a great penalty save, our girls equalised with a cool finish under pressure. The game ended in a two all draw. Well played girls.

Tuesday 28th April

Fair Oak entered two teams into a netball tournament held at Wildern School involving schools from across the local area. The competition was a qualifying event for the Hampshire School Games with only the overall winners going through to the next stage. The teams were split into two very competitive groups. After all of these group matches had taken place Fair Oak B ended up fourth in their group despite playing some super netball and Fair Oak A finished as runners up in their group. This meant that Fair Oak A made it through to the semi finals where they played a very strong Durley team. In a close encounter, Fair Oak just came out on top, two one. In the final, they faced Botley and again, after an extremely tight affair, Fair Oak just pipped their opponents to victory by the same scoreline as the semi-final, two one. This means that the Fair Oak A netball team have also qualified to participate in the Hampshire School Games along with our hockey and girls football teams! What a fantastic achievement. Congratulations to both of our brilliant netball teams for some great play today!

Thursday 30th April

Another successful sporting month for Fair Oak was rounded off by our boys football team who won a tournament between local schools held at Wildern Secondary School. The boys started slowly but managed to beat an organised Durley team by a goal to nil. They had certainly got into their rhythm by the time the next game came round and as a result, Fair Oak dispatched Netley Abbey five nil. Next up were Freegrounds who were also soundly beaten, again by five goals to nil before our tournament was rounded off with a game against Berrywood. With time running out in the match the score stood at nil nil. However, Fair Oak pushed hard to find a winner and did so which meant the game ended in a one nil victory. Fair Oak therefore won the tournament without conceding a goal. Well done boys and good luck in the Hampshire Cup Final on Tuesday!
