April Sports News

Tuesday 2nd April

Our annual Invitation Cross Country Relay Race took place here at Fair Oak Junior School. Twenty four schools participated in the event with around six hundred runners in total competing. Our school entered multiple teams into the four races which was great to see. The highlights for our school were our lower school girls B team who finished fourth, our lower school boys B team who finished in fifth, our upper school girls A team who finished in eighteenth and our upper school boys C team who finished seventh in their race. What brilliant running by all of our forty seven participating athletes!

Our netball team took part in a qualifying tournament today for the Hampshire Games in June. They had already had to qualify for this stage by finishing in the top two of a previous competition earlier in the year as had all of the other competing teams. The standard of play was therefore very high indeed. The competition took a league format with each team playing against every other team. Fair Oak beat Bursledon, Droxford, Durley and Swanmore and lost two tight matches by three goals to two against both Botley and Freegrounds. As these matches were both close, Fair Oak picked up bonus points for scoring fifty percent (or more) of their opponents total. After all of the points had been totalled up, Fair Oak finished as tournament runners up and have therefore qualified for the County Finals in Aldershot in June. Well done to all of our fabulous netballers who battled hard against tough opposition throughout the event!

Monday 29th April

Today Fair Oak travelled to Oakley for upper school tag rugby training matches. The session was again really useful to our squad in preparation for our tournament at Wildern tomorrow. Well played to all those who took part!

Tuesday 30th April

Two teams were entered into a tag rugby tournament today held at Wildern School between schools from the Hamble and Eastleigh area. The competition was a qualifier for the County Finals later in the year and only the top two teams would progress! Fair Oak A and B were placed in separate groups. Our A team beat Upham, Botley B, Wellstead and Freegrounds B to win their group and qualify for the final. Fair Oak B won against Droxford, Botley A, Freegrounds A and Botley C to win their pool. This meant that they also qualified for the final and so both our A and B teams have made it through to the County Finals which take place later in the school year. In the final of todays tournament, Fair Oak B won a very tight game by five tries to four. Well done to both of our teams who performed brilliantly throughout the event. What an amazing result for Fair Oak!
