Tuesday 5th January
Fair Oak entered three teams into an upper school basketball tournament held at Wyvern amongst schools from the local area. The tournament took on a league structure where every team played every other team with the side collecting the most points at the end being crowned overall winners. Mr Stredwick was extremely proud of all of our teams who showed a high level of skill and sportsmanship thoughout the event. After all of the matches had been completed, Fair Oak 3 finished in fifth place with seven points, Fair Oak 2 finished in second place with sixteen points and Fair Oak 1 finished as competition winners with seven wins from seven and 21 points! What a fantastic result for the school. Well done to all of our amazing basketball players!
Tuesday 10th January
Fair Oak entered two boys and two girls into a table tennis tournament held at Wildern school. The event was a qualifier for a county finals competition later in the year and involved schools from Eastleigh, Hamble and Winchester. Players were drawn into groups of four with the top two from each group qualifying for the quarter finals. Both of our girls finished second in their group while one of the Fair Oak boys won his group with the other Fair Oak boy finishing a respectable third in his group. This meant that three of the four Fair Oak athletes would be playing in the quarter finals! Unfortunately both girls lost their quarter final matches but our Fair Oak boy won his match to make it through to the semi final where he eventually lost in an extremely close encounter. Well done to all of our magnificent table tennis players!
Tuesday 17th January
Our basketball team participated in a qualifying tournament at Wildern today, for the County Finals competition in Aldershot later on in the school year. Only one team would make it through to represent the area so the competition was intense right from the start. Fair Oak began with a super display to dismantle Wellstead by six baskets to nil. Unfortunately things did not go to plan in our second match which was a close one nil defeat to a strong Botley team. Our last two group matches both ended in Fair Oak victories, the first by four baskets to nil against St James and the last fixture, three one against Upham. These results meant that Fair Oak finished as runners up in the pool and would play the winners of the other group, Durley in the semi final. This match was really close but Fair Oak won by a basket to nil to set up a final against Botley and a chance for revenge! A quite brilliant team performance from Fair Oak lead to victory, again by one basket to nil. This means that we have qualified for the County Finals at Adershot Army Barracks on Thursday 29th June. What a marvellous achievement. Well done to the whole team!
Monday 23rd January
Fair Oak travelled to Botley Primary School to participate in tag rugby training matches. The team selected was very inexperienced and they benefitted hugely from the session. The players are really looking forward to developing their skills further in fixtures later on in the season. Well done to all of those who took part!
Thursday 26th January
Three teams were entered into an ‘emerging players’ basketball tournament held at Wildern School. This competition was for players who have not played the game before so it was a good opportunity for our up and coming athletes to show what they can do! Both of our teams played really well, especially as our side comprised of pupils from years four and five and they were up against year five and six opponents. Fair Oak 1 finished in third place in their group with two wins and two loses while Fair Oak 2 finished at the top of their pool with the same number of points as two other schools, but unfortunately they just missed out on qualifying for the final and finished in third place in the pool on baskets scored. What a superb effort from both of our teams. They should all be really proud of themselves!
Monday 30th January
Fair Oak took a year five tag rugby team to Oakley to take in part in training matches. These were another opportunity for more of our athletes to fine tune their skills and develop their match sharpness. All of our players performed superbly in what was a very even encounter. Well done to our team who all showed excellent organisational work as well as a willingness to listen, learn and improve.
