Wednesday 1st July
Our boys cricket team played their last 16 match away to Foxhills today in Ashurst. Fair Oak won the toss and decided to bowl and they did so brilliantly, restricting Foxhills to just 186 for 12! Fair Oak batted positively and with intent in response and eventually ended up with 279 for 7. Well done boys.
Friday 3rd July
Some of our Year 6 Dance Leaders today worked with 3C and 3H in the Wyvern Dance Studio to teach them an Egyptian dance routine that our Year 6 pupils had been learning the previous week. This was an excellent leadership opportunity for our Dance Leaders and the quality of the routines that were produced were amazing. Well done to all of the Year 3 pupils involved and particularly to our Dance Leaders who worked brilliantly with their young dancers!
Tuesday 7th July
Today Fair Oak entered two teams into a football tournament hosted by Berrywood Primary School. All competing teams were divided into two groups with the winners and runners up in each group playing off for the title of overall tournament winners and the third and fourth placed teams in each group playing off for the ‘Subsidiary Cup’. Our B team began their fixtures against Cadland and drew 0-0 before losing narrowly to Berrywood A 2-1. Their final group game was against Freegrounds and unfortunately Freegrounds ran out 2-0 winners which meant that Fair Oak B would play off for the ‘Subsidiary Cup’. Fair Oak A won all three of their group games. First up were Berrywood B who were beaten 2-0. Then came Botley who were beaten 4-0 and finally Nightingale were beaten 1-0. This meant that Fair Oak A would play for the chance to win the overall tournament. In the ‘Subsidiary Cup’ semi final, Fair Oak B played Nightingale and the match turned out to be a cracking 2-2 draw which meant that penalties would decide the outcome. Unfortunately Nightingale won the shoot out. Fair Oak A played Freegrounds in their semi final and after a scoreless game penalties were again the decider but this time Fair Oak came out on top which meant that they would play Berrywood A in the final. Despite constant Fair Oak pressure, Berrywood denied Fair Oak a goal and so this game also went to penalties. The outcome was the same as the semi final – a win for Fair Oak A! Congratulations on all of our players who were superb throughout the tournament.
Thursday 9th July
Due to the fact that our Year 5 boys cricket team had won their qualifying group in the Year 5 Hampshire Cup, they travelled to West Park School in Titchfield to play in the County Finals tournament. Twelve teams were participating in the competition and they were split into three groups of four with the winners of each group and the best runners up of all the groups going through to play in the semi finals. Our boys started the group stage well by beating Droxford by 6 runs and then they went on to record two more wins firstly against Sholing by 39 runs and finally against Wellington, this time by 97 runs! Having won all of their group games Fair Oak went through to the semis to play Marchwood who were again beaten comfortably by 24 runs. This set up a final against a strong Abbotswood team. Fair Oak showed few nerves and fielded first restricting Abbotswood to just 229 for 3. In response, the Fair Oak boys batted superbly to reach a final total of 246 for 2 and claim the title of Year 5 Hampshire Cup Winners!
Friday 10th July
Today twenty new Year 6 Dance Leaders were put through their paces in preparation for another leadership session next Friday where they will be teaching dance routines to 3ST and 3M. The quality of their work was superb so we are all very much looking forward to seeing the finished routines!
Tuesday 14th July
Today three teams from Fair Oak were entered into a rounders tournament held on our school field involving schools from the local area. There were eight teams in total and they were split into two groups of four with each team playing every other team in their group. The winners of each group would play each other in the final and the runners up in each group would play off for third and fourth places. Fair Oak A and C were drawn in Group 1. Fair Oak A beat both Stoke Park A and Durley A but lost to Fair Oak C which meant they ended up runners up in their group. Fair Oak C won all three of their matches and therefore won the group. Over in Group 2, Fair Oak B lost to Stoke Park B as well as Upham. They did beat Durley B but unfortunately this was not enough to finish as group winners or runners up. The third-fourth place match was between Fair Oak A and Stoke Park B. Fair Oak A were victorious and finished in third place overall. In the final, Fair Oak C played Upham. At the end of the match the scores stood level at two all with one out each so the match went to over time. Unfortunately Upham just edged Fair Oak out in a gripping encounter by two rounders to nil. Well done to all of the athletes involved who played the tournament in a fantastic spirit throughout!
Wednesday 15th July
Our gymnastics squad was entered into a tournament held at Berrywood school today involving schools from the local area. The competitors each had to perform a floor routine, a body management routine as well as a vault. The technical level of performances across the event was outstanding! Our team can be very proud of their third place finish behind Knightingale Primary and the winners, Berrywood.
Thursday 16th July
Our boys cricket team played their Hampshire Cup quarter final at home to St Bedes of Basingstoke today with the winners going through to the Finals Day at Sarisbury Cricket Club. Fair Oak won the toss and decided to bowl which they did brilliantly restricting the visitors to just 234 for 4. Fair Oak batted positively throughout their innings and their score of 283 for 3 was reflective of their dominance. Well done boys and good luck in the County Finals!
Friday 17th July
Today was the last of our dance workshops and for 3ST and 3M it was performance day! Just as before, our Year 6 Dance Leaders worked with our Year 3 pupils in the Wyvern Dance studio to teach them an Egyptian dance which they then performed to the rest of their year group. The theme of the Egyptians was used as that topic is studied by our Year 3 pupils who were very much inspired to produce some fantastic performances! Well done to all the pupils involved.
Monday 20th July
The boys Year 6 Cricket Hampshire Cup finals day was held at Sarisbury Cricket club today. Both the semi finals and final took place on the same evening. Fair Oak were drawn against Berrywood in their semi final and it was Berrywood who won the toss and elected to bowl. Fair Oak set a very competitive 262 for 4 and then went on to bowl tightly and field superbly to control proceedings. In the end, Fair Oak won by 7 runs. This set up a final against Abbotswood. Again, Fair Oak lost the toss and were put in to bat. This time, it was Fair Oak who were restricted in their stroke play and they ended up with 228 for 8. Unfortunately for our boys Abbotswood batted strongly in wet conditions to record a 47 run win. Our boys can still be extremely proud of themselves to finish as runners up in the whole of the county. Well done boys!
