July Sports News!

Tuesday 4th July

Fair Oak entered three teams into a rounders tournament held today on our school field. The competition took a league format where every team played every other team. The side with the most points at the end would be crowned winners. After all the fixtures had been played, Fair Oak B finished joint fourth while Fair Oak C finished joint third! Fair Oak A won the competition with five wins from their five matches. Well done to all of our wonderful rounders players!

Wednesday 5th July

Today our boys cricket team played their County Finals Tournament at St Cross Cricket Club. The team had previously qualified by winning a competition at Hursley Park. The competing sides were split into groups with every one playing every other school in their pool with the most successful teams making it through to the quarter finals. Fair Oak began with a narrow five run defeat to Oakley. Our next match against Wimborne ended in a Fair Oak victory by ten runs. Springhill were our final opponents in the group stages and Fair Oak ran out convincing winners by a margin of seventy one runs which was enough to book a place in the quarter finals against St Marys. In this fixture, Fair Oak batted first and reached a formidable total of 306 for 2. In response, St Marys never looked like reaching their target and ended on 244 for 4. This meant that Fair Oak went through to the semi-final to face South Farnborough. In this fixture, South Farnborough batted first scoring 266 for 5. Fair Oak were right in the run chase and needed eleven from the last over but unfortunately fell short, ending on 256 for 5. Our boys should be proud of their efforts today in reaching the semi-finals of the County competition. Well done boys!

Friday 7th July

Well done Fair Oak on a great performance!

The Fair Oak development athletics team travelled to Berrywood school to participate in a competition amongst local schools. The athletes had to perform a number of events including the javelin, the shot put, an 80m sprint, a 200m sprint, a long jump and a standing triple jump. Points were awarded to teams depending on where their athletes came in each of these events. The competition finished with a number of relays. After the last race had been run and the points were added up, Fair Oak finished in eighth place with one hundred and twenty nine points. Well done to all of our outstanding athletes.

Tuesday 18th July

Today our Year 6 Dance Leaders worked with all of our Year 3 pupils in the Wyvern Dance Studio to teach them a dance routine that our Year 6 pupils had been learning. This was an excellent leadership opportunity for our Dance Leaders and the quality of the routines that were produced were amazing. Well done to all of the Year 3 pupils involved and particularly to our Dance Leaders who worked brilliantly with their young dancers!

Our boys cricket team made the long journey to play away to Long Sutton this afternoon in the quarter final of the Hampshire Cup. Fair Oak won the toss and elected to bowl first. The home side finished their innings on a competitive 264 for 11. Fair Oak batted sensibly in reply and ended with 273 for 3 to book their place in the finals afternoon at Havant Cricket Club!

Wednesday 19th July

The Year 5 County Cricket Finals took place today at West Hill Park School in Titchfield. Both our A and B teams had qualified for this event which is a fantastic achievement. The competing teams were split into groups with each team playing every other team in their pool. The winners of the pools would go through to the semi-finals. Fair Oak B began with a narrow defeats to both Park Gate and St Michael’s. The final group game was a tough fixture against a very strong Abbotswood and unfortunately Fair Oak lost this match too by a margin of sixty runs. Our A team began their campaign with a six run win against Bosmere and then lost to Spring Hill by twenty one runs. The final fixture was against Hook with Warsash and this match also ended in defeat, this time by just a single run! Unfortunately, these results meant that both of our teams missed out on a place in the semi-final. Well done to all of our participating cricketers who should feel proud of the way they represented our school today.

Monday 24th July

Our boys cricket team played their County Cup Finals day today at Havant Cricket Club. In the semi final Fair Oak were drawn against Oakley which would be a difficult contest. Fair Oak batted first and posted a score of 259. Some superb bowling and fielding from Fair Oak put real pressure on the Oakley team who fell short of their target by six runs! This meant that Fair Oak would play in the final against the winners of the other semi final, Brockenhurst who had beaten Droxford. Brockenhust won the toss and decided to bat. Some great shot making meant that Brockenhurst ended with 280. In response, Fair Oak were positive from the start but unfortunately lost wickets at regular intervals, ending on 224. Well done to Brockenhurst who played really well to win the cup but real credit must also go to Fair Oak who played brilliantly throughout the competition to finish as county runners up!
