June Sports News!

Tuesday 8th June 2021

Fair Oak returned to competitive inter school matches with a rounders competition held on our school field for year 6 pupils. The competing teams were split into two leagues with each team playing every other team in their league. Fair Oak 1 began with a hard fought win over Botley by 3 ½ rounders to 3. Berrywood 2 were the next opponents and Fair Oak ran out winners again, this time by 5 rounders to 2. The final group match was against Durley 1 and it was our opponents who came out on top by 5 rounders to 1 ½ . Fair Oak 2 began with a 4 – 3 loss to Freegrounds and then followed that up with a draw with Berrywood 1. The final fixture against Durley 2 ended in a convincing 6 ½ to 3 ½ win for Fair Oak. These results meant that both Fair Oak teams finished in second place in their groups and would meet in the third place play off game. In that match, Fair Oak 1 just pipped Fair Oak 2 to third place winning the match 4 – 3. Well done to all those participating players for a fabulous return to competitive school sport!

It was the turn of our year 4 rounders teams to play their tournament today. The competition took the same format as the year 6 event. Fair Oak 1 began with a 4-2 loss to Freegrounds, but then won 3½ to 2½ against Berrywood 2. Unfortunately in the final pool match Fair Oak 1 lost to Durley 1 by half a rounder. Fair Oak 2 began their fixtures with a loss by one rounder to Botley, but then won their final two games against Berrywood 1 and Durley 2. These results meant that Fair Oak 1 finished third in their group and Fair Oak 2 won their pool, from Botley on rounders scored. Therefore, Fair Oak 1 would meet Berrywood 1 in a play-off for fifth place, while Fair Oak 2 qualified for the final which would be against Durley 1. Fair Oak 1 played superbly to comfortably beat Berrywood 1 by a scoreline of 5½ to 2½. The final was a very closely contested game, but Fair Oak 2 just edged out Durley 1 to win the event with a scoreline of 4½ rounders to 4. Well done to all those pupils who took part!

Fair Oak entered a two cricket teams into a cricket tournament held at the Lapstone Park playing fields between schools from the South Eastleigh and Winchester area. In their pool, Fair Oak 2 won one game and lost three which meant that they finished fourth in their pool and would play Berrywood 1 in a play off for seventh place overall. Unfortunately, Fair Oak narrowly missed out in this match scoring 232 for 2 against Berrywood’s 242 for 4 which put them in eighth place overall. Fair Oak 1 won all of their group matches which meant they qualified for the final where they played Berrywood 2. In a rather one sided match, it was Fair Oak who came out on top scoring 233 for 0 while Berrywood scored 189 for 4. Well done to both of our superb cricket teams!

Fair Oak entered two teams into a year five and six golf tournament today which was held at Wildern. All participating teams worked their way around a series of stations which were designed to improve every element of their game from putting to driving with points being scored depending on how well the teams performed at each activity. At the end of the tournament when the team totals had been added together, Fair Oak 1 ended up in 8th place with 500 points while Fair Oak 2 finished 4th with 676 points. Well done to our golfers for a great overall team performance!
