Well done to all of our fantastic tag rugby players. There really were some outstanding performances today!

Two of our best cross country runners had previously negotiated their way through two gruelling qualifying competitions to make it to the Cross Country Championship finals race which was held today at Down Grange in Basingstoke. Our athletes were up against over one hundred of the very best runners in Hampshire and did brilliantly to finish in seventeenth place and fifty sixth place overall. What a brilliant effort!

Friday 10th March

A group of ten year three pupils visited Banister Park Bowling Club for a bowls taster session today. The children were taught the basics such as how the scoring works, types of delivery, ditch rules and tactics. The Fair Oak pupils listened to instructions brilliantly and as a result, they all made great progress and had fun!

Monday 13th March

Fair Oak hosted a boys football friendly match today against Springhill. Fair Oak dominated from the start and took the lead through a classy direct free kick. Our boys added a further two well worked goals before the break leaving our visitors with an uphill task in the second half. Things got no better for Springhill who conceded a further three goals to leave the final score at six nil to Fair Oak. Well done to our team for a superb performance.

Tuesday 14th March

Great news came through this morning that our hockey team have qualified for the School Games County Finals in Aldershot on Thursday 29th June. They will join our basketball team who have also made it too!

Fair Oak today entered a netball tournament played at Wyvern between local schools. The competition took a league format where each team played every other team. After all the matches had been played, Durley B and Upham finished in joint third place while Durley A finished as runners up. Fair Oak played superbly throughout, winning all of their matches which meant that they finished in first place and won the tournament. What a great result. Well done to our magnificent netballers!

Thursday 16th March

Our girls football team played a friendly football match away to Colden Common. Fair Oak dominated throughout and took the lead early. By half time the score stood at three nil to Fair Oak. In the second half, the pattern of play continued and Fair Oak went one better than in the first half by scoring a further four goals! This meant that the final score stood at seven nil to Fair Oak. What a fabulous display from our team.

Friday 17th March

The year three and four boys football team travelled to Hythe to play Hythe Primary School in a friendly fixture today. Hythe proved to be tough opponents but Fair Oak took the lead mid-way through the first half and at half time the score still stood at one nil. Fair Oak started to play some really good football in the second half and kept their shape well. However, despite creating numerous chances, Fair Oak could not add to their first half strike. Well done to all of our boys who came away with a well earned one nil victory.

Monday 20th March

The boys football team played their Hampshire Cup semi-final away to Sarisbury today and came away with a deserved place in the final after a convincing five one win! On a small pitch with little space to play their football, Fair Oak adapted quickly putting the little space they could create to great use. Fair Oak took the lead mid-way through the first half only for Sarisbury to peg them back almost straight away. However, Fair Oak quickly restored their lead and led by three goals to one at the break. Fair Oak never really looked like conceding again and indeed scored a further two goals which meant that it would be our boys who would be playing in the county final!

Tuesday 21st March

The season continued today for our boys football team with an away friendly at Kings Worthy. The home team were out for revenge as Fair Oak had come out on top in their encounter previously this year to knock Kings Worthy out of the Hampshire Cup. In an even start to the game it was Fair Oak who took the lead but Kings Worthy fought back hard to equalise and at half time the score stood at one a piece. The second half continued in much the same fashion although Fair Oak created the best chances and took one of them, a beautifully worked move around the home sides box followed by a crisp finish. No more goals were scored which meant that Fair Oak were the winners by two goals to one.

Thursday 23rd March

Two teams were entered into a tag rugby tournament today held at Wildern School between schools from the Hamble and Eastleigh area. The competition was a qualifier for the School Games County Finals later in the year and only the top two teams would progress! Fair Oak A and B were placed in separate groups, both playing well to finish as runners up after these fixtures had been played, but with definite room for improvement. This meant that they both went through to the next pool stage of the competition between the other group winners and runners up all of who would still have a chance to go to the School Games. Fair Oak B won two and lost two in their pool which put them in fourth place and unfortunately they did not qualify. Fair Oak A won three and drew one of their fixtures and finished top of their pool which meant that they qualified for the County Finals! Well done to both of our teams who performed brilliantly throughout the competition.

Saturday 25th March

Our boys football team played their English Schools Football Association South West Finals tournament as Hampshire’s representative school today. Fair Oak began their campaign against Wiltshire in positive fashion with a two one win and followed that up with another win, this time by two goals to nil against Somerset. Next up were the Channel Islands who were very strong and out-battled Fair Oak, running out two nil winners. That result left Fair Oak needing a win in their last game against Devon to ensure their progression to the semi-final. Our boys put in a fantastic display in this fixture to win by four goals to nil. Berkshire were our semi-final opponents and they proved tough opposition. After full time the game stood at nil nil and so extra time was needed. Fair Oak carved out some good opportunities and took one deep into the second half of extra time to win one nil. This meant that they qualified for the National Finals later in the academic year along with the other semi-final winners. What an amazing achievement. This is the first time Fair Oak have ever qualified for a National Finals event. Well done boys!

Monday 27th March

Our annual Invitation Cross Country Relay Race took place here at Fair Oak Junior School. Twenty schools participated in the event with over five hundred runners in total competing. Our school entered multiple teams into the four races which was great to see. Our lower school and upper school girls ran really well but unfortunately finished outside the top three positions. However, our lower school boys upper school boys A teams won their races which is a quite magnificent achievement considering the number of other competitors they were up against. Brilliant running by all of those pupils who participated!

Tuesday 28th March

Fair Oak entered two teams into a girls football competition today between schools from the Hamble area. Two sides would make it through to the School Games County Finals in June so our girls were determined to do well. Our B team began with a one nil loss in their group to Botley and then drew the next two games in their group nil nil to Freegrounds and then Durley. Our A team began their pool matches with a three nil win against Netley Abbey followed by a two nil victory over Wickham. Next up were Berrywood B who were thrashed seven nil before the girls finished their group matches with a nil nil draw against Shamblehurst. These results meant that our B team finished fourth in their pool while our A team finished first in theirs and would progress through to the semi-finals where they would play Freegrounds. The other semi-final was between St James and Shamblehurst. The winners of both semis would book their place at Aldershot and our girls produced a fine display in this match to win by a goal to nil! Well done to all of our participating players. Our A team will now head to the County Finals with Shamblehurst who won their semi-final. Another fantastic result for our pupils!

Thursday 30th March

Durley visited our school today to play a boys friendly football match. The fixture was good preparation for our upcoming Hampshire Cup Final. Fair Oak dominated from the start and managed to use their accurate passing and clinical finishing to score four goals by half time! In contrast, the second half was a much more even affair. Despite the home side creating some good chances, Fair Oak could not add to their half time goal tally and so the final score was four nil. Well done to our boys and good luck in the final on Monday!
