November Sports News

Tuesday 1st November

Fair Oak entered three boys teams and one girls teams into a table tennis tournament held at Westgate School. The winners of both the boys and the girls competition would go through to represent the area at the County Finals at Testwood College. In the boys competition the teams were split into pools with each team playing every other team in that pool. The winners of each pool then went through to a knock out competition, and the other teams played in a Plate Tournament. Our A team did brilliantly to make it through to the knockout competition but were beaten by Western. Our B and C teams qualified for the Plate competition where our C team were winners and our B team were runners up!

The girls competition was organised slightly differently. There was only one group and every team played every other team. The team finishing top of the pool would be the winners. Fair Oak finished in second place and just missed out on qualification for the County Finals. Well done to all of our teams!

Wednesday 2nd November

Our girls football team played a friendly match at home to Durley. Fair Oak dominated the first half and scoring four goals in the process! The second half was rather more even and neither side managed to add to the scoreline. The four nil win was just the result needed by our girls before their upcoming Hampshire Cup fixture with Oakley.

Friday 4th November

The Fair Oak upper school girls tag rugby team travelled to Oakley to participate in tag rugby training matches to help our team to prepare for the season ahead. The session was really useful to our players who are developing nicely and should head into their upcoming competitions with confidence.

Monday 7th November

Our girls football team played their Hampshire Cup match today at home to Oakley. From the start, Fair Oak were well organised and took the lead mid way through the half with a superbly taken goal. Fair Oak had a further two good chances before the break but unfortunately could not take either. At the start of the second period, the match was turned on its head by Oakley who scored two quick fire goals before sitting back to defend their lead. Despite Fair Oak battling hard and creating chances, neither side added to their goal tally and so the match ended two one to the visitors. The girls should however, be proud of their performance today.

Wednesday 9th November

Fair Oak entered four teams into a lower school boys football tournament at Wyvern amongst schools from the local area. The tournament took on a league structure where every team played every other team with the side collecting the most points at the end being crowned overall winners. All of our teams played superbly, particularly considering that for many of the boys, this was the first time they had represented the school. After all of the matches had been completed, Fair Oak 3 finished in fifth place, Fair Oak 4 in third position while Fair Oak 1 were runners up to the winners, Fair Oak 2! What a fantastic result for the school. We clearly have a lot of talent in years three and four. Well done boys!

Thursday 10th November

Today our upper school swimming team travelled to Wildern to take part in a swimming gala. The competition was comprised of a variety of different races including both individual and relay events with points being awarded to teams depending on where they finished in each race. Our team performed superbly and really enjoyed the event. By the end of the gala, the points totals were as follows (lowest score wins):

Bishop’s Waltham – 71

Botley - 136

Shamblehurst - 150

Fair Oak - 187

Durley - 205

Freegrounds - 214

Berrywood - 237

Upham - 286

Well done to our fantastic upper school swimming team!

Friday 11th November

Fair Oak travelled to Oakley with a mixed tag rugby team to participate in more tag rugby training matches. The standard of rugby from both sides was at times quite exceptional. Well done to all those who took part.

Tuesday 15th November

Hamble College was the venue for an indoor athletics event between year five and six pupils from local schools. Competitors scored points depending on how well they did in their track and field events and these points were collated to give an overall team total. The boys and girls points were then added together to give a school total. When our athletes had finished their events and the calculating was completed, Fair Oak ended up in first place! What a great effort from all of our athletes.

Friday 18th November

Oakley brought their lower school girls tag rugby team to Fair Oak today to participate in tag rugby training matches. For our girls it was the first time they had played a match. It took a while for Fair Oak to get used to the speed of our opponents but once they did so, they matched the visitors well and scored some superbly worked tries. Well done to all of those who took part!

Tuesday 22nd November

Fair Oak entered four teams into a lower school girls football tournament at Wyvern amongst schools from the local area. Just like the boys tournament earlier in the month, the competition took on a league structure where every team played every other team with the side collecting the most points at the end being crowned overall winners. All of our teams played brilliantly, particularly considering that for many of the girls, this was the first time they had represented the school. After all of the matches had been completed, Fair Oak 3 finished in fifth place, Fair Oak 4 in joint fourth position while Fair Oak 2 were in third place with Fair Oak 1 the overall tournament winners! What a wonderful result for the school. We clearly have a lot of talent in years three and four. Well done girls!

Wednesday 23rd November

Integr8 Dance came into school for the morning to run dance sessions for some of our lucky year five pupils! The sessions involved creating a routine based upon Earth and Space, a topic which the year group have recently been learning about. The quality of work produced by our enthusiastic dancers was really very impressive indeed and we look forward to organising more sessions in the future!

Monday 28th November

The Fair Oak boys football team travelled to Kings Worthy to play their Hampshire Cup quarter final today. Kings Worthy have been performing well this year, scoring lots of goals in the process so our boys knew they would be in for a tough match. Fair Oak took an early lead and then pressed the home side back with a sustained period of pressure. However, Kings Worthy equalised against the run of play on the break. This only seemed to sting Fair Oak into action and our boys scored two more to leave the half time score at three one to Fair Oak. In the second half our team produced some good football and scored two more goals to leave the final score at five one. Well done boys. We look forward to hearing our opponents for the semi final!

Tuesday 29th November

Hamble College was again the venue for an indoor athletics event, this time between year three and four pupils from local schools. Just as in the upper school competition, athletes scored points depending on how well they did in their track and field events and these points were collated to give an overall team total. The boys and girls points were then added together to give a school total. When our competitors had finished their events and the calculating was completed, Fair Oak ended up in third place! Well done to all of our participating pupils.
