October Sports News - County Champions Again!

Tuesday 4th October

October started with a Year 5/6 boys football tournament at Wyvern. Fair Oak entered four teams into this event which was a competition involving local schools. Teams were split into two pools with each team playing every other team in their group. The winners of each pool would play each other in the final while the runners up of each group would play off for third place. Fair Oak 3 and Fair Oak 4 were placed in the same pool and both did brilliantly. After all their matches had been played, Fair Oak 4 finished in fourth place while Fair Oak 3 finished in a very respectable second. In the other group, the top two places went to Fair Oak 1 and 2 with Fair Oak 1 just pipping Fair Oak 2 to top spot. This meant that the final would be between Durley and Fair Oak 1 and the third place play off would be between Fair Oak 2 and Fair Oak 3! In the final, Fair Oak 1 dominated throughout and ran out comfortable three nil winners which meant that they were crowned competition winners. Fair Oak 2 and Fair Oak 3 could not be split. Their match ended goalless so they shared third place overall. Well done to all of the boys who represented their school magnificently throughout!

Thursday 6th October

Our girls football team played their first round match today away to Sarisbury in the Hampshire Cup. Fair Oak struggled at first to adapt their game to the very small pitch prepared by the home side but once they had got used to the conditions our team looked a very formidable unit. Indeed, their pace and power were too much for Sairsbury and the final score was six nil to Fair Oak. Well done girls. We now look forward to the draw for the next round!

Friday 7th October

Our boys football team played their County Finals tournament at Wide Lane today. The competition involved the winners of other regional tournaments from around Hampshire so the standard of play was extremely high. Fair Oak began with two nil nil draws against St Jude’s and then Hatch Warren before scoring their first goal of the competition in another draw, this time one all with Foundary Lane. Next up were Whiteley and again, the match ended goalless. Gurnard from the Isle of Wight were the next opponents and this time Fair Oak won by two goals to nil. Purbrook were then beaten by Fair Oak, this time by a goal to nil. The tournament ended in in another victory for our boys with a two nil win against Merdon which meant that the team ended with a total of thirteen points and were left to wait for the final standings. The nerves were on edge but as the positions were announced the boys became more and more excited. Finally, it was revealed that Fair Oak had won the competition by a point from Merdon and would go forward to represent Hampshire at the South of England Finals later on in the year. What an amazing achievement by our boys. Well done to the whole squad!

Tuesday 11th October

Our upper school cross country runners were entered into the South Eastleigh and Winchester cross country race held today at Hamble College. The standard of competition was extremely high and all of our athletes performed brilliantly. Individually our runners won both the Year 5 girls race as well as the Year 5 boys race while our Year 6 boys runners won their overall team event! Well done to all of our athletes. What a lot of cross country talent we have in our school!

Thursday 13th October

Fair Oak entered five teams into a girls football tournament today held at Wyvern School. The competing teams were split into two pools with each team playing every other team in their group. The winners of each pool would play each other in the final while the runners up of each group would play off for third place. Fair Oak 3, 4 and 5 were all placed in the same pool and played superbly throughout. After all their matches had been played, Fair Oak 5 finished fourth in the group, Fair Oak 4 finished third and Fair Oak 2 were runners up. In the other group, Fair Oak 2 finished in third place and Fair Oak 1 won top spot. This meant that the final would be between Fair Oak 1 and Stoke Park 2 and the third place play off would be between Durley and Fair Oak 3! In the final, Fair Oak 1 dominated throughout and ran out convincing six nil winners which meant that they were crowned competition winners. Durley and Fair Oak 3 could not be split. Their match ended goalless so they shared third place overall. Well done to all of the girls who represented their school magnificently throughout!

Friday 14th October

The Hampshire Cup took centre stage today for our boys football team who faced a tough tie away to Orchard Junior School. The match began with Fair Oak setting the pace. Indeed, our boys raced into a three goal lead with some breath taking football and some smart finishing. Three nil was the half time score. Orchard were more of an attacking threat in the second half but Fair Oak defended well and were calm under pressure. No further goals were added which means that Fair Oak have made it safely through to the next round.
