September Sports News

Tuesday 13th September

Our boys Year 4/5 football team began their season with a tournament hosted by Berrywood School involving teams from the local area. The competition was a qualifying tournament for a County Finals day to be held at Wide Lane later in the month. Our lads started off with a fixture against Stoke Park and won by a goal to nil. Next up were Droxford and again, Fair Oak were the victors by a goal to nil. Our third fixture was against a very strong Freegrounds team and this close encounter ended level at nil nil. The final game for our boys was against Wellstead and Fair Oak saved their best performance for this match running out comfortable four nil winners which meant that our boys won the group and would play the winners of the other group in the final, Netley Abbey. Unfortunately it was Netley Abbey who out fought Fair Oak in the final and won by a goal to nil. Well done to our team who represented our school brilliantly throughout!

Friday 16th September

Our girls football team played a friendly match today at home to Herne Junior School. Fair Oak dominated throughout the first half and played some great football but were unfortunately caught on the break to leave the half time score at one nil to the visitors. In the second half Fair Oak battled well and were at least the equal of their opponents but they could just not find a way past the solid defence of Herne. The final score was as it had been at half time, one nil to Herne but our girls should be very proud of their opening performance of the season despite the scoreline!

Tuesday 20th September

Today it was the turn of our Year 6 boys football team to play their qualifying tournament at Berrywood for the County Finals competition to be held at Wide Lane next month. First up for Fair Oak were a very physical Stoke Park team. Our boys were their equal throughout and scored with the last kick of the game to win one nil! Next up was another difficult opponent in Botley and this time the match ended goalless. Next the opponents were Berrywood B who were comfortably beaten by three goals to nil before Fair Oak rounded off their group matches with a nil nil draw against Swanmore. This meant that Fair Oak finished second in the group and qualified for the semi finals where they met Shamblehurst. Fair Oak really played well to come through with a two nil win to set up a final against previous opponents, Stoke Park. In an excellent match it was Fair Oak who again came out of top with a one nil win after extra time. Well done to the boys who are through to the County Finals!

Thursday 22nd September

Our girls football team played another friendly match this time at home to Durley. Fair Oak dominated the first half and scored two goals for their efforts. The second half was rather more even and neither side managed to add to the scoreline. The two nil win was just the result needed by our girls before their upcoming tournament at Berrywood. Well done girls!

Monday 26th September

The boys football team played their first round match today in the Hampshire Cup at home to Portsmouth Grammar School and eased through to the next round with a superb performance. Fair Oak raced into an early lead and didn’t look back. The goals flowed and at half time our boys were five nil up. There was no let up for the visitors in the second half and Fair Oak added a further six goals. The final score was eleven one to Fair Oak! Mr Stredwick was particularly pleased with the attitude of the team. Each and every member played their part in one of the best all round team displays of any Fair Oak side in many a season. If the boys can keep up these performance levels they will go far this year.

Tuesday 27th September

September ended with a girls football tournament at Berrywood Junior School between teams from the local area. The competition consisted of two pools with each team playing every other team in their group. The top team in each pool would then play each other in the final. Fair Oak began with a one nil win against Wickham and followed that up with a great performance to beat Netley Abbey three nil. The last two group games for our girls also ended in wins, the first by two goals to nil against Shamblehurst and then a one nil win over St James. This meant that Fair Oak qualified for the final and would play Durley who also won their group. Fair Oak dominated the match, pinning Durley in their own half. Our girls hit the woodwork on two occasions but just could not force the ball into the net. After extra time the match went to penalties and unfortunately it was Durley who won the shoot out. Well done to Fair Oak however who played very well throughout!
