Children’s Yoga
The benefits of Yoga for our children
At Fair Oak Junior School we have introduced children’s yoga as part of our learning support, here are some of the many benefits of yoga for our children;
. it helps children nurture a positive image of themselves and others
. teaches children that yoga is a science of both the body and the mind
. maintains a child’s natural flexibility; there are over 170 yoga postures to explore, all of which increase a child’s physical and mental strength, stamina and poise
. improves immune system’s function, stimulating nervous system as they directly target lymphatic drainage points in the body, resulting in healthy children, less colds and other childhood ailments
. aims to increase level of oxygen in blood through breathing techniques, for optimum brain function and support in child’s learning development; breathing also focuses the mind on present moment – leading to a less fractured and more fulfilling approach to learning and play; an overactive child may sit and listen for longer periods
. enables a child to explore their creativity and imagination, both of which are needed to support their emotional and physical well-being
. emphasis is put on developing a child’s memory through games (remembering in a certain order.) This also arouses interest in characteristics and traits of others
On top of this, it is hopefully a lot of fun too!
