    Wednesday 14th January

Freegrounds Junior School brought their boys football A team to play our A team in a friendly in preparation for our upcoming Hampshire Cup quarter final. Fair Oak performed brilliantly throughout the match and at times played some quite breath taking football despite a rather heavy pitch. The goals flowed for the home side and at half time the score stood at 8-0 to Fair Oak. The dominance continued from our boys in the second half with the final score a resounding 11-0 win. Well done to each of the players involved.

    Tuesday 20th January

Two boys and two girls were entered into a qualifying tournament for the County Individual Table Tennis Finals which are to be held at Testwood College in February. This qualifying tournament took place at Wildern School and involved schools from throughout the Hamble area. Competitors were split into different groups with the top two from each group going through to knockout stages. Both of the Fair Oak boys won their groups and so made it through. One of our girls finished second and so joined the boys but unfortunately our second female competitor finished third and so just missed out on the next stage. In the knockouts the Fair Oak pupils did superbly. Our boys finished first and second overall and so have now qualified for the county finals while our Fair Oak girl finished a very creditable fourth overall. Well done!

    Wednesday 21st January

Fair Oak entered four mixed teams into a basketball tournament between local schools which was held in Wyvern sports hall. The standard of play was high throughout from all of the competitors. For many of the Fair Oak pupils this was their very first basketball tournament but each and every one of them acquitted themselves superbly. The teams were split into two groups. The winners of each group then played each other in a final and the second placed teams played against each other for third place. Fair Oak Reds won their group and went on to win the final comfortably. Although our other teams did not make it through to the play off matches, Mr Stredwick was extremely pleased with all of our competitors.

    Thursday 22nd January

The Fair Oak boys football A team made it through to the Hampshire Cup semi final with a fine six nil win against Oakley. The score line could have been even more emphatic but for some excellent shot stopping from the visiting keeper. The pitch was rather cut up due to the recent cold, wet weather but our team still managed to pass the ball about which was very pleasing to see. Well done boys for another great win!

Swanmore College was the venue for an indoor athletics event between schools from our local area. Fair Oak entered both a boys and a girls team. Competitors scored points depending on how well they did in their track and field events and these points were collated to give an overall team total. The boys and girls points were then added together to give a school total. When our athletes had finished their events and the calculating was completed, Fair Oak ended up in second place overall. What a great result, especially as this was the first school athletics event that some members of our team had entered.

    Tuesday 27th January

Stoke Park hosted a hockey competition open to year 3 and 4 pupils. Fair Oak entered two teams into this event and both did very well indeed. Initially all of the teams involved were split into two groups with the winners of each group playing each other in a final to decide the overall winning team and the runners up from each group playing each other to decide who would finish in third place. Fair Oak A won their group with three wins from three matches. Firstly Upham were beaten four nil followed by Durley by a score of two goals to one. Finally the A team beat Stoke Park four one. Fair Oak B also won their group with a one hundred percent record. They beat Upham two one, Durley two nil and Stoke Park four nil. This meant that both of our teams reached the final. In a close game in which our B team took the lead, the eventual score ended in favour of our A team by three goals to one. What a brilliant result for both of our teams!

  • Matt Le Tissier Visits Fair Oak Junior School!

    Wed 21 Jan 2015

Yesterday we were lucky enough to be visited by Southampton legend Matthew Le Tissier who came to take a whole school assembly about his football career and the media work he does now that he is retired from the game. Matt answered questions from our pupils during the assembly and stayed on signing autographs afterwards for the many children who wanted to meet him.

Le Tissier spent his entire professional club career with Southampton and won eight caps for the England national football team. In spite of interest from clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, Le Tissier remained at Southampton for his entire professional career, his loyalty garnering special affection from Southampton's fans who nicknamed him "Le God".

An attacking midfielder with exceptional technical skills, Le Tissier is the second-highest ever scorer for Southampton behind Mick Channon and was voted PFA Young Player of the Year in 1990. He was the first midfielder to score 100 goals in the Premier League. He is notable for his record at scoring penalty kicks – converting from the spot 47 times from 48 attempts – and is considered one of the greatest ever from the 12 yard spot.

Fair Oak Junior School would like to give a big thank you to Matt for giving up his time to see us. Our pupils were definitely inspired by him and enjoyed his visit immensely (and so did Mr Stredwick)!

  • Fair Oak Junior School Walkathon Challenge

    Mon 19 Jan 2015

We all know the benefits of staying active and keeping fit and here at Fair Oak Junior School we do a great deal to keep ourselves healthy. However, for the next 17 weeks we will be trying something new to help us in this area. A class a week will be given pedometers which are small electronic devices that measure how many steps you take each day. Each child will receive a pedometer on loan and they will be asked to wear them as often as possible during that week (Monday to Friday). At the end of the week the pedometers will be collected back in by the class teacher who will record how many steps the children have taken. A class total will be collated. This will be repeated for each class in each year group and a Walkathon Challenge Cup will be presented to the class in each year group who have taken the most steps during their pedometer week. Pedometers will be sent home with children as steps taken at home and out and about count, so we ask that parents or carers help their children to carefully look after the pedometers and help the children to work the devices should they need it. Don’t worry, instructions will be sent home too! It would be very helpful if parents or carers could also sign the recording sheet sent home with each child to verify the number of steps taken each day.

Thank you very much for your help and co-operation in trying to make Fair Oak a fit and healthy place to live!

  • Basketball Tournament Date Change

    Fri 09 Jan 2015

    Dear Parents

Unfortunately the organisers of the basketball tournament that was due to take part on Monday 12th January 2015 at Wyvern have discovered that the Sports Hall has been double booked and the tournament has had to be re-scheduled. The new date will be Wednesday 21st January 2015 with a slightly earlier start time of 15:15. The tournament is scheduled to finish by 17:00 at the latest at which point your child will need to be collected from the Wyvern Sports Hall.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this date change may cause. We hope that you will appreciate that this was beyond our control.

    Thank you for your patience.
