  • June Sports News - The County Titles Just Keep On Coming!

    Thu 29 Jun 2017

    Tuesday 6th June

Our boys cricket team continued their Hampshire Cup campaign with their final group stage fixture at home to Shamblehurst today. The visitors won the toss and elected to bowl first. Fair Oak batted sensibly but aggressively to end up with a very competitive 280 for 1. Shamblehurst struggled to score with any fluidity when batting against an accurate Fair Oak bowling attack and ended on 224 for 4. Well done boys for another fine winning performance!

    Thursday 8th June

Today, two Fair Oak athletics teams took part in a very competitive ‘Quad Kids’ tournament held at Wyvern School. All athletes had to compete in four different events. These were a 75m sprint, a 600m run, a howler throw and a standing long jump. Each competitor was given a set number of points for their team depending on how well they performed in each discipline. At the end of the competition after all scores had been collated, Fair Oak A finished in second place overall and have qualified for the prestigious Hampshire Games later this month! Fair Oak B finished in a very creditable eleventh place. Each of our athletes should feel very proud of themselves as there were some outstanding individual performances in all four events.

    Tuesday 13th June

Two lower school handball teams were entered a festival held today at Wildern School. Berrywood, St James, Freegrounds, Botley and Durley also attended the competition which gave all of the pupils an opportunity to improve their skills in the sport through a series of fun activities. The festival ended with every team playing two fixtures to put into practice what they had been learning during the earlier part of the event. Both of our teams played superbly and enjoyed the afternoon!

    Monday 19th June

The Fair Oak upper school tag rugby team travelled to Oakley to participate in tag rugby training matches to help our team to prepare for the School Games later this month. Both sides played some breath taking fluid rugby and should go into the County Finals feeling confident!

    Tuesday 20th June

Today two teams were entered into a lower school cricket tournament. The tournament was a league format with each team playing every other team. The team with the most points at the end of the event would be crowned the winners! Fair Oak B began the competition with a match against Botley and just lost out to the visitors in a close game by seven runs. The Fair Oak teams then played each other and it was Fair Oak A who came out on top by a margin of forty six runs. The final fixture saw Botley play Fair Oak A. Fair Oak won the toss and batted first, posting a score of 250 for 1. Botley never really looked like reaching their target and fell well short on 202 for 5 which meant that Fair Oak A ended up as tournament winners. Well done to both of our teams for a great performance!

    Monday 26th June

Our year five boys cricket teams played in a county finals qualifying tournament today held at Lapstone Park. Fair Oak A began with a twenty one run win over Berrywood and then followed that up with a six run win over Droxford which meant that they qualified for the final. Fair Oak B beat Fair Oak C by just one run in their opening game and then went on to win by twenty runs against Bishops Waltham. These results meant that the final would be an all Fair Oak affair, with our A and B teams playing each other! After losing that close game to Fair Oak B, Fair Oak C beat Bishops Waltham by twenty one runs which meant that they would play Droxford to decide who would finish third. In that match, Droxford proved too strong and won with a score of 267 for 0 to Fair Oak Cs 206 for 2. In the final, Fair Oak A dominated and ran out winners with a score of 248 for 4 to Fair Oak Bs 183 for 6. Well done to all of our participating players. Both our A and B teams have now qualified for the county finals in July!

    Tuesday 27th June

Fair Oak entered two teams into a boys football tournament held today at Berrywood school between other schools from the local area. The competing teams were split into three groups. Fair Oak A began with a match against Stoke Park A and won two nil. They then followed that up with a one nil win against Botley B. Fair Oak B began with a narrow two one defeat to Berrywood A but followed that up with a one nil victory against Freegrounds. These results put our A team into the Cup competition and our B team into the Bowl tournament. Fair Oak B lost their opening fixture in this next stage of the competition to Stoke Park A and then beat Stoke Park B one nil which meant that they finished in fifth place overall. Our A team in the Cup competition lost their opening fixture three one to Berrywood A and then beat Botley A two nil which meant that they finished second overall. Well done to both of our superb teams for a great footballing display!

    Thursday 29th June

Fair Oak had previously qualified for the Hampshire School Games finals at Aldershot army barracks. This annual competition is similar in structure to the Olympics in that there are various teams competing in a variety of sports in arenas across the complex. The athletes involved are the best in Hampshire so the level of competition is fantastic. Our girls football team, our tag rugby team, our basketball team, our hockey team as well as our athletics team had all previously qualified for this finals day which is in itself an amazing achievement!

After their first round of group matches had been played our girls footballers found themselves in the plate competition. They played superbly here and got all the way to the final only to miss out narrowly and finish as runners up which is a fantastic result!

Our hockey players performed brilliantly throughout their competition and finished in a creditable tenth place while our basketball team battled hard to finish in fifteenth place overall. Our athletics team performed well and achieved some pleasing PBs on their way to a nineteenth place finish.

Our tag rugby team played brilliantly to win all of their morning group matches and finish top of their pool. This meant that they then qualified to play in the top group in the afternoon along with all of the other pool winners for a chance to win the overall tournament. Fair Oak began this stage of the competition with a four three win over Knightwood and followed that up with another win, this time by three tries to two over Lymington. A tough two all draw against Oakwood then followed with a final game six three win against Medstead. These results meant that Fair Oak were crowned Tag Rugby County Champions having won nine and drawn one of their matches today. Well done to the team for a fabulous performance that Mr Warrior would be proud of!

All of our athletes who took part deserve a huge pat on the back for the way they persevered in all of their fixtures against some superb opposition. They played with spirit, enthusiasm and passion while always remembering to play their games in the right spirit. We are all very proud of you. Well done!
