    Tuesday 6th June

Two teams were entered into a boys cricket tournament held at Lapstone Park today between schools from the South Eastleigh and Winchester partnership. The competing teams were split into two leagues. Fair Oak A found themselves in League 2 and began their campaign with a loss to Berrywood. That was followed by fixtures against Bursledon and Wickham, both of which ended in comfortable wins for Fair Oak. In League 1, Fair Oak B began with a win against Netley but that was unfortunately followed up with a loss to a very strong Droxford team. Fair Oak B finished their group games with victory against Botley. These results meant that Fair Oak A just missed out on the semi-final matches on runs scored to Freegrounds. Our team can feel themselves unlucky to finish third in their group and miss out on the chance to play for a place in the final. Our B team finished as group runners up in their League which meant they qualified for the semi-finals and would play Berrywood. Despite a good performance, our B team lost this fixture and therefore played Freegrounds in a third/fourth place play-off game. This match was won by Freegrounds meaning that Fair Oak B ended up in fourth place overall. Fair Oak A finished their tournament with wins against Botley and Netley which put them in fifth place overall. Well done to both of our teams who played the game in a great spirit throughout!

    Tuesday 13th June

It was the turn of our girls to play their South Eastleigh and Winchester area cricket tournament today. Our girls began with a comprehensive 74 run win against Botley and then followed that with an even bigger victory against Wickham, this time by 78 runs. Next up were Freegrounds who were also beaten by 78 runs and then a final victory came against Upham, this time by 70 runs. These results put Fair Oak in first place in their group and meant that they would face Group A winners, Droxford, in the final. Fair Oak lost the toss and were put into bat. Our girls batted sensibly but aggressively and finished with a competitive 84. Fair Oak then bowled accurately, giving away very little and ground Droxford down to a final total of just 46. This meant that our team won the tournament and have qualified for the County Finals which will be held at the Ageas Bowl later in the month! Well done to all of the squad.

    Tuesday 20th June

Today our girls cricket team played their County Finals Tournament at The Ageas Bowl. The team had previously qualified by winning a competition at The Lapstone Park playing fields. The competing sides were split into groups with every one playing the other schools in their pool with the winning sides qualifying for the semi-final. Fair Oak began with a dominant victory over St Patrick’s primary by a scoreline of 101 runs to 45. In our second and final group match, Sparsholt were the opponents. Unfortunately it was our Sparsholt who were the victors in a close match that ended 97 runs to 80. This meant that Fair Oak finished second in the group and did not make it through to the semi-final. Our girls played a final friendly fixture against Hook with Warsash. The game was played in a great spirit with Hook winning by 69 runs to 53. Our team should be proud of their efforts not just today at the County Finals but for the whole season! Well done to all those involved.

Our boys team played their cricket County Cup quarter final match at home to Droxford today. Fair Oak batted first and finished with a total of 191 for 13. In response, Droxford struggled against some accurate bowling and tight fielding from the home side but our visitors just managed to hold on to win by seven runs, finishing on 198 for 10. Despite this result, our team should feel proud of their efforts today against one of the stronger teams in the competition this year.

Completing a busy today, our athletics A team competed in their County Finals qualifying event at Wildern against schools from the South Eastleigh and Winchester Sports Partnership. Our athletes performed superbly with many registering personal bests in multiple events. The team will have to wait for another week until the second area qualifying tournament has taken place to see if they have done enough to win the overall event and therefore go on to represent our area at the County Finals!
