    Dear Fair Oak Family,

Monday 5th October – House Cross Country

A reminder that children should come to school on Monday, dressed in PE kit for this whole school event. As per previous communications, your child can also wear a pair of plain black track suit bottoms or leggings as well as their shorts for additional warmth and comfort. Base layers or ‘second skins’ are also a popular way of keeping warm and are permitted as long as they remain predominantly covered by either the PE top or a pair of tracksuit bottoms. In addition, (and as a short-term measure) your child will be permitted to wear a suitable outdoor, waterproof coat or jacket (preferably predominantly black) for all outdoor lessons or events such as this.

    Keeping warm at school

Most classrooms in school have windows/doors open throughout the day due to the current climate and the need to keep all areas of the school ventilated. With this in mind, please make sure your child wears their school jumper each day and possibly layers underneath their shirt for additional warmth now that the weather is turning colder. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Bike to School Week starts today

To mark the launch of Bike to School Week 2020, Sustrans has released the results of the YouGov survey we commissioned to find out parents’ views on school run following Covid-19 closures.

Despite a reported cycling boom during the lockdown, there has been an increase in private car use during the school run and the survey reveals that three out of five UK parents currently do not enjoy the school run.

62% of parents cited congestion as the main reason why, parents also highlighted pavement parking (32%), dangerous junctions (27%) and narrow and poor quality pavements (17%) as other reasons why they didn’t enjoy the school run.

“The journey to school shouldn’t have to be a stressful or negative part of the day, and yet it seems that way for a lot of families across the country. As schools have now returned following closures amid Covid-19, families are looking for safe and socially distanced ways to travel."

    Xavier Brice, CEO at Sustrans

Bike to School Week promotes the benefits of walking, cycling and scooting to school and is starting today.

It is not too late to take part. Find out more about Bike to School Week...

    Dear Fair Oak Family,

    Curriculum Evenings

Due to the current restrictions in place, we are unable to hold our curriculum evenings in the normal face to face way. This year, each year leader has created a PowerPoint presentation, detailing further information related to your child's learning which will be uploaded to the website on Friday. This can be found under the year group tab. Please take a look and find out about the year ahead!

    Year 3

Thank you to everyone who has let us know that there have been Spelling Shed problems. The children all have their list to learn for the test on Monday and we will sort the technical glitch as soon as possible to that the children can access the games. Thank you for your patience.

As a school, we are taking part in the following Hampshire County initiatives, promoting walking to school:

Walktober, run annually since 2016, is a challenge held each October to celebrate and focus the mind on International Walk to School Month.

The pandemic, and subsequent lockdown, has taught us all that exercising and spending time outside enjoying your surroundings is great, if not essential, for your wellbeing. That is why the Walktober challenge is structured around Hampshire and the NHS’s Five Steps to mental wellbeing.

Walktober means encouraging your school communities (pupils, staff and their families) to walk as much as possible during the month. Unusually this year -during October, as well as Walktober, we will also be promoting Walk to School Week (5-9 October) and Clean Air Day (8 October), both delayed due to Covid 19.

Please can we also remind parents to park considerately in neighbouring estates, not to park on zigzag lines outside the schools and to please use the local Park and Stride sites, such as The Lapstone and The Clock Inn and allotments in Knowle park.

    PSA

Our amazing PSA will be holding their AGM meeting on Thursday 15th October at 6.30pm in the school hall. Please take the time to have a look at the attached flyer for more information. The PSA are always keen to welcome new faces, so please come along to find out more.

    Dear Fair Oak Family,

It has been great to see the children settling back in to school life, (or at least, the new version of school life) so well.  It has also been lovely to see them smiling and enjoying being with their friends again. The sunshine has certainly helped too!

    Special diets….

If your child has any special dietary requirements/allergies etc., our school kitchen can only cater for them if you have applied for a special diet through the HC3S website. Thank you for your understanding with this.

    Music Lessons

Thank you to all those parents/guardians who have already paid for music lessons. For those who haven’t yet paid and haven’t been in touch with the school office regarding this, payment is now due. Thank you.

    Dear Fair Oak Family,

Please take the time to open and read the attached letter regarding changes to uniform expectation. This includes important information about your child’s PE days, wearing PE kit into school etc. Thank you.

In these ever changing times, we thought it may be a good idea to remind everyone of the times that the school office is open each day:  The office is manned 8 am – 4.30 pm.

    Year 5 Parents/Guardians

We have noticed a number of Year 5 children arriving at school, outside of or later than their arrival time slot of 08.30 – 08.45. Because we have to strictly stagger start times to protect the children, we really need your support with these timings. For Year 5, school starts at 08.45 and they do need to be in class ready for the day at that time. Thank you for your continuing support in what we know are difficult times.

    Year 7 Applications….

The application process has opened for Year 7 applications and will remain open until 31st October. Please see the attached letter which explains how the process works.

    House Cross Country 2020/21

Weather permitting, the House Cross Country races will take place on Monday 5th October at the Lapstone playing fields. All children will need to come to school wearing their PE kit on that day ready for action! Sadly, with the current restrictions in place, it is not possible for parents/guardians/grandparents to come and watch this event.

    What to do if…..

We understand the confusion parents are experiencing in the current climate – with that in mind, we have attached a COVID-19 quick reference guide to attendance at school for parents which you may find helpful.

    • Thank you for all your cooperation surrounding accessing the site and schools. We have established routes that are keeping the different users of the campus as safe as possible, the map attached identifies the designated entrance and exits points for all of our different schools on campus.

We are also receiving concerns from local residents about inappropriate parking in surrounding roads and driveways. Please can parents using local roads, park in accordance with the highway code. The local police have made some patrols in the area already this term and are looking out for particular issues as they are being informed of them.

    Dear Fair Oak Family

What a wonderful first day back with all of our children! It was lovely to see lots of happy smiling faces, hear their laughter and share in their enthusiasm for learning as well as reforming and building friendships. Thank you everyone for following government guidance keeping yourself and others safe as much as possible on campus.

Going forward could we please ask our new year 3 parents to drop their children at the main green gates in the mornings instead of coming onto the site which you were invited to do today. If you have any problems, Mrs Layley and Mrs Cooper will be around to answer questions and provide support. This will increase the speed of drop off and further encourage social distancing.

Year 3 parents – Please look out for an online access letter coming home with your child today! This will allow you to pay for lunches/trips/music etc. online and also to book parents’ evening appointments when the time comes.

    Campus access

In order to control the flow of pedestrians across the campus from tomorrow we will instigate a one-way system for Junior and Infant School parents to access the campus.

Please enter only via the gate at the side of the old Children’s centre at the front of the site and exit via the pavement (in front of Art block and Wyvern Nursery) and red path adjacent to the main vehicular gate (both will be signposted). This will allow for a steady flow entering and leaving the site.

Please can we ask that if you need to come into the school office, you wear a face covering and observe social distancing as much as possible – to protect yourselves and school staff. Thank you so much for your understanding.
