    Dear Fair Oak Family,

    News for all pupils

    Sporting Fixtures

Further to our recent communication regarding Covid measures that have been put in place at Fair Oak Junior School, please be reminded that if your child is involved in a sports fixture off site and is travelling in the school minibus, they need to have had a negative lateral flow test before coming to school that morning. (Some letters inviting children to participate in fixtures were sent out before this information was shared but the same rules will still apply). Parents would then need to contact the school office to confirm the negative result (by telephone or email). We have attached the letter again for your information – please see the section ‘school run clubs and fixtures’. Thank you for your support with this.

    School photographs

For all of those children who were photographed in the follow up session (i.e. those children who had been missed) – the photo orders need to be with us by the end of the day on the 8th December. Thank you.

    Shoe boxes for the homeless

Mrs Sear is collecting items to put together ‘Christmas Shoeboxes’ for homeless men (and a few women) in the Winchester area in conjunction with the charity “Trinity House Day Centre”. Any donations would be very much appreciated. For example, we would be pleased to receive shoe boxes, toiletries (razors, soap shampoo etc) hats, gloves, scarves, chocolates (not liqueurs) biscuits, and Christmas wrapping paper to wrap them. Please send donations to Mrs Sear any time before December 9th 2021.

Thank you if you have already sent in a donation - it is really appreciated.

    Dear Fair Oak Family,

    News for all pupils

Please accept our apologies for the fact that there is no newsletter this week. Staff shortages have sadly made it impossible for us to produce it.

Please remember that the school day for children in Years 3 and 4 has moved slightly to help with keeping everyone safe in the light of the Covid outbreak we are experiencing in school. Children in Years 3 & 4 should be in school by 8.45am. If they arrive after this time they should come to sign in as late, and order their lunch, at the office. Their school day ends at 3.15pm.  The timings for the Year 5 and 6 children has not changed.

Please check your child’s dinner account and top up where necessary - the school’s dinner debt is unusually high at the moment. Also, if your child uses Breakfast Club, please can you ensure that you clear any outstanding balances there too. Thank you.

Please can we ask you to advise us of any PCR test results received. We have to report to the Department of Education the number of Covid-19 cases in school on a daily basis so it is helpful to know, as soon as is possible, when the results come through. Thank you.

    Covid-19

Thank you for your support over recent days.

If your child is currently off school as a result of a positive lateral flow test, we would be grateful if you could update us when the PCR test result is received and then confirm which day your child is due to return to school.

Thank you for your continued support with regular lateral flow testing at home to help us keep our school community safe.

    Art Club

As confirmation of the message sent earlier today, we regret that Art Club this week is cancelled due to staff sickness. We apologise for any disappointment this may cause. We will let you know when Art Club will recommence.

    Dear Fair Oak Family,

    News for all pupils

    Christmas Lunch reminder…..

Please find attached the Christmas Lunch menu and reply slip. This MUST be returned by FRIDAY 12TH NOVEMBER.

If this form is not returned we will assume your child is having a packed lunch from home on this day. Thank you.

    Music Lessons

It is really helpful if your child is aware of what time their music lesson is each week. The music teachers cannot go looking for children as it would eat into the lesson time of other children. Lunch times in particular are very difficult to locate a child as they could be on any of the play areas around the school site. A little reminder on the morning before they come to school would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

    No Art Club….

We regret that Art Club after school tomorrow and next week is cancelled. We apologise for any disappointment this may cause.

Children in Need – Friday 19th November

With apologies, the wrong date for Children in Need was published on the last Newsletter. The correct date is Friday 19th November. More details to follow.

The green gate entrances to the school are locked at 9am. Any children arriving after this will need to come to the new school office entrance to be signed in.

    Photo Orders

Because of the half term break, the deadline for the photo orders has been extended to Thursday 18th November. Please ensure all orders are here by that time. Thank you.

    Breakfast Club Payments

Just a little clarification in response to queries from parents.

Breakfast served at Breakfast Club still needs to be paid for with cash each day, directly to the kitchen staff. Only the cost of attending Breakfast Club is payable online. Thank you.

    Poppies for sale

In previous years, poppies have been available to purchase in school. Unfortunately, this year we have been advised by the Royal British Legion that there is not a local supplier available to provide us with any. We would still love to see the children wearing their poppies with pride in school and they should be available to purchase in local shops in due course, if not already.

    Thu 25 Nov 2021

    Tuesday 2nd November

It was the turn of our year 6 pupils to participate in a dodgeball festival held today at Wildern School. Eleven schools from the local area participated in the event which gave all of the pupils an opportunity to improve their skills in the sport. Both Fair Oak teams played really well in their fixtures and between them they won four and lost six matches with Fair Oak 1 finishing joint top of their group! Well done to all of those who took part and represented their school brilliantly.

    Tuesday 9th November

Swanmore College was the venue for the South Eastleigh and Winchester team table tennis event today. The winners of the competition would go through to the prestigious County Finals later in the school year! The tournament took a league format with each side playing every other team. The school with the most points at the end would be crowned winners. After all the matches had been played, the final table was as follows:

    Team

    Points Total

    Fair Oak A

    176

    Fair Oak B

    125

    Droxford A

    118

    Wednesday 17th November

Fair Oak entered five teams into a lower school girls football tournament held at Wyvern. The competition took a league format where every team played every other team. The side with the most points at the end of the tournament would be crowned champions! After all of the fixtures had been played, the final league table stood as follows:

    Team

    Points Total

    Fair Oak 1

    Thursday 18th November

A mixture of our year 5 and 6 pupils travelled to Wildern school today to participate in a Change for Life festival. Schools from the local area took part in the event which gave all of the pupils an opportunity to improve their multi skills. Both Fair Oak teams performed really well and represented our school brilliantly.

    Monday 22nd November

The girls football team today played their second round match in the Hampshire Cup at home to Sarisbury Junior School. In the first half Fair Oak played well and deservedly found themselves three goals up at the break. In the second half Sarisbury briefly rallied pulling the score back to 4 – 2 to Fair Oak but then our girls wrestled control back and added another two goals to leave the final score at 6 – 2 to Fair Oak. Well done to our team who now progress to the third round of the competition!

    Wednesday 24th November

Fair Oak entered six teams into an upper school girls football tournament held at Wyvern. Just like the previous lower school girls event, the competition took a league format where every team played every other team. The side with the most points at the end of the tournament would be crowned overall winners. After all of the fixtures had been played, the final league table stood as follows:

    Team

    Points Total

    Thursday 25th November

Fair Oak today participated in a year 5 and 6 skipping festival held at Wildern School. Seven schools from the local area participated in the event which gave all of the pupils an opportunity to improve their skipping skills and learn some rather fun new ways to improve their fitness. Our athletes performed brilliantly and thoroughly enjoyed the event. Well done to all of those who took part and represented our school with smiles on their faces!

    Dear Fair Oak Family,

    News for all pupils

We hope you have all enjoyed a happy and healthy half term break! We are looking forward to welcoming the children back to school tomorrow. Here are just a few reminders and useful information.

    Parents evenings

We are looking forward to meeting many of you at our first in person Parents’ meetings for a while. We would ask that you enter through the green gate, (as the office entrance will not be manned at this time of day). Please pass the hall on your left then enter the school through the main double doors at the end of the path.

We are aware that the Covid-19 pandemic is not over and in order to keep you, your children and our staff safe at this time we would ask you to bear in mind the following.

    • Please remember the government guidance is still that children in school, and their families, should be taking lateral flow tests twice each week;
    • Please wear a face covering in school, unless you are exempt;
    • Please maintain a safe distance from other parents and from our staff;
    • Please know which class you are heading for, to prevent unnecessary moving around the school;
    • Please do not arrive too early – there will be an opportunity to look at the children’s books after the meeting with the teacher.

Please be reminded that Mrs Brown’s Parents evenings have been postponed until further notice as communicated before half term.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

    Breakfast Club

We are pleased to inform you that payment for breakfast club can now be made online through your Scopay account.  Any credit from previous payments has been recorded and will show as of today.

Attendance will be recorded manually on arrival at breakfast club each morning and will be added to the Scopay system by the office team. Please keep the account in credit. Thank you.

    Scopay dinner accounts

Just a reminder to check your child’s dinner account before they come back to us tomorrow and ensure they have credit for any meals required. Thank you.
