    Dear Fair Oak Family,

Happy Monday… What a chilly start to the week!

    Building Work Update

As many of you will have seen, we are well under way with our scheduled building work. What used to be the year 4 playground, which connects the Infants and Juniors has been cornered off for the builder's compound to be erected. The Millenium Garden has been excavated ready to, in time, become a hard playing surface for the children and the staff car park has been blocked off ready for digging the foundations and creating and new entrance to the school. I wanted to take this opportunity to reassure our local community that any commemorative trees, plaques, benches will be carefully relocated and remain pride of place within the school grounds.  Also, a number of trees have, as part of the build needed to be cut down and removed. However, Hampshire County Council alongside the arboriculturist have carefully considered the impact on the environment and we can assure you that they will be replanting more trees on the school grounds to offset this.

    Assessment Pieces

Thank you to those of you who have uploaded the key assessment pieces highlighted on the year group timetables. Where possible, can we ask that these pieces of work are completed independently / unaided so that we as a school receive a true reflection of your child's ability and can be used to pitch work correctly as support with future planning.

    ELSA

Some of your children will have been undergoing Emotional Literacy Support (ELSA) in school prior to the lockdown. Whilst these sessions usually run for 6 weeks as an intervention, some children require further work, and some children will now need more support with regards to managing their emotions with the continuation of the pandemic. If your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us as we can offer support, direct you to resources and where necessary provide virtual interventions or school-based interventions for those in school.

February Half Term - National Primary School Distance Competition

On Monday 15th February, primary schools across the UK go head-to-head as they seek to travel the greatest distance over the Spring half term break. The event ends at 9.00pm on Sunday 21st February and children are encouraged to walk/run/scooter/wheelchair or cycle as much as they are able during this time.

There will be a constantly evolving league table showing both the absolute distance and the average distance per pupil for every school. The competition will be fierce!

Children should participate with their parents whilst adhering to all Covid restrictions. It promises to be an epic event!

    Dear Fair Oak Family

Thank you to those that have signed up to join us for Parents in Partnership. There is still time and availability in the meetings to sign up. Please email in to the school office telling us which session you wish to attend. Zoom links will be sent out on Friday.

Please can we remind all parents that are completing remote learning with their children to complete the survey monkey link that was sent out on Monday. This feedback will be used to celebrate successes as well as make improvements where necessary and we would be grateful for your help with this.

As mentioned in Monday’s Oak Bites we will be transitioning to a new remote learning platform - Microsoft TEAMS. Please read the attached letter regarding how and when this change will take place. It also highlights some of the benefits and also how help will be provided to support this change.

Whilst talking about technology, you may be aware that we have received some laptops from the Department for Education to assist our children with their home learning. We have also had some donations of surplus laptops and tablets from members of the community. If you are struggling with the number of devices in your house compared to the number of children you have, please do get in touch, and we’ll see if we are able to help. Please email adminoffice@faioak-jun.hants.sch.uk . Each case will be considered separately and we will be in touch.

We have been notified by Tucasi - who administer our online payments and communications system, that they have been subject to an information security incident. An unauthorised user has downloaded a list of SMS messages sent by our school between 1st Dec 2020 and 8th Jan 2021 and the data items that they will have had access to are the recipient phone numbers and the message text. No other data has been breached. Tucasi have taken the necessary action to prevent any further issues and have reported the matter to the Information Commissioner’s Office. If you received a text from us during this period (we don’t send many – just dinner money payment reminders and some attendance checks), they ask that you will be extra vigilant if you receive any texts purporting to be from us.

Please see attached a newsletter produced by the Road Safety Team.

Firstly, we would like to remind all parents/carers that the campus is only accessible if you have a permit. The Campus gates are manned by Wyvern and also by Wates the main contractor on site, as all 3 sites are having work over the next few months. This is not a change to the regulations that were already in place. Parking permits are issued on an individual basis at the discretion of the Headteacher. If you feel a permit is required please email into the admin office and your request will be considered. Rudeness to any of the staff team who challenge parking will not be tolerated.

Parents in Partnership (which is an opportunity to speak with Mrs Layley and other members of the SLT) will take place over zoom due to the current restrictions in place. The meeting will have a clear agenda which includes, remote learning, mental health and well-being and catch-up spending. If you wish to attend one of these meetings, they will be held on MONDAY 8th at 10:00 am and THURSDAY 11th at 4pm. Numbers will be limited to ensure effective conversations can be held. One you have confirmation from the office of attendance at the meeting you will be issued with a ZOOM link. Please do not pass this on to anyone else, only those signed up will be admitted. Therefore, please enter with your name clearly displayed – you may need to change this from children's names or computer name.  This will be an opportunity for discussion around the key areas mentioned above.

We are always working extremely hard to develop our remote learning provision and I am sure that you can understand that, as we are such a large school, lots of pre-planning needs to be put in place before new initiatives are rolled out. This enables clear communication and an effective transition. We have historically had issues without internet strength on site but now that this has been resolved we are in a position to change our learning platform to enable ease of use, uploading/assessment and feedback as well as virtual/live sessions. Please look out for Oak Bites on Wednesday where a letter will be attached outlining the changes that will be taking place over half term.

We would like to collect responses regarding our remote provision. Please click on the link below to submit a response per child. The survey will stay open until Friday 5th February at 12 noon. https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/KRRHWDT

Please see attached some very useful information from the School Nursing Team on mental health and wellbeing – for children and adults.

Lockdown 3.0 PE Challenge – please see attached the latest daily physical challenges that you may wish to get involved with.

Music Lessons – Please see links below for this week’s online music lessons. Upper school - https://youtu.be/eN1e8uXDkO8; Lower school - https://youtu.be/MmPO7Kn72us

This is a reminder that we are supporting Children’s Mental health week this week with fun activities and an assembly. The theme for the week is ‘Express Yourself’ and we are encouraging pupils to ‘dress to express’ for their Zoom call with their teacher (if working at home) or for the day if working in school. The pupils might want to wear a mixture of items such as a football shirt of a team they support, part of their cubs /brownie uniform, an item connected to their hobby or a colour which might represent something about themselves. We will also be showing a video clip on the Zoom call and in school, with advice for any children who have anxieties at this time.

We’ve chosen the day to coincide with year group Zoom call with their teacher so pupils at home can show how they have ‘dressed to Express.’

    Year 3/Year 5 - Wednesday 3rd February

    Year 4/ Year 6 - Thursday 4th February

*the pupils in school do not need to wear uniform on the above days.

    Thank you for your support.
