    Dear Fair Oak Family,

    News for all pupils

Just as a reminder, our COVID risk assessment is on our website and is being regularly updated so if you have any questions or concerns regarding our COVID safeguarding procedures please take a look at that document. However, as always, we are always available to answer any questions if you are not able to find the information you are looking for.

Also, as mentioned earlier in the week, 100% attendance certificates will be coming home with your children today as per our normal school procedures. We are more than aware that this has been a very different year and as a result those that have been isolating due to COVID following school and government procedures will not be penalised and this authorised time off working from home will not be included in the attendance figures.

Have a lovely Christmas - stay safe and we look forward to seeing you all in the new year!

    Dear Fair Oak Family,

Happy Wednesday everybody! What a fabulous week it has been so far - Christmas jumpers, Christmas lunch and Christmas Fayre yesterday; Rotary club Christmas train today! The Christmas spirit is well and truly alive at Fair Oak Junior School – we hope the children have enjoyed it.

    News for all pupils

    • Due to schools being best placed to support track and trace services during the Christmas break our staff will be on call to make phone calls as necessary. If your child develops symptoms within 48 hours of contact with other pupils, and as a result, has a test which comes back positive, we will need to contact all of those contacts to ask them to isolate. Therefore, if this happens please email into the school office with URGENT COVID in the subject box, these emails will be checked regularly and forwarded to Mrs Layley and the rest of the Senior Leadership Team. Please be prepared to answer any questions to aid the tracking of all those that have come into contact with your child. If your child tests positive for covid or indeed anyone else in the household does during the Christmas period but hasn't had contact with their class 48 hours before symptoms developed please email in as normal and state isolation periods and when we would expect them back in school etc. We are very aware that nobody wants any interruptions during their Christmas break but we have a duty of care to everyone in the Fair Oak Junior School community and track and trace phone calls will be made as soon as we have information provided to us. Please be kind and courteous to all those making phone calls as they will be made in the best interests of your child/family.

    • In response to our recent survey monkey and in preparation for supporting children with their home learning in the case of any future class or year group isolations, we are looking to provide some IT equipment for those children that are eligible for free school meals and who have no other device available to them at home.

If you meet these two criteria, please email the school office and we will be able to consider your request. Thank you.

    • At the end of the week, we will be sending home certificates to celebrate with all those children who have been in school every day this term. Also, we will be sending letters home to any family whose child's attendance has dropped below 90% and is becoming a cause for concern. If you receive a letter, we hope that we might see an improvement in your child's attendance next term.

    Dear Fair Oak Family,

    Happy Wednesday everybody!

    News for all pupils

Please see a message below from Mrs Layley

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

Yesterday, our daily Covid Update Bulletin from the Government announced that…

‘To ensure that staff get the time off they need and deserve, schools may wish to use an INSET day, making Friday 18th December a non-teaching day and using the day for staff training, which could be delivered online.’

This last-minute announcement has come as a surprise. My personal view, is that the government have spent all term telling schools they must remain open and shouldn’t close early. Secondly, what gives school staff more of a need to time off over say NHS staff or supermarket workers? Thirdly, we don’t see how having an INSET day, delivering training online can be counted as time off, as it is in fact still working.

With such short notice this would cause childcare issues for parents, with many possibly having to take the day off work themselves. Having spoken with Mr Peart, the headteacher at Fair Oak Infant School, we have both decided not to take Friday 18th December as an INSET day and therefore both schools will remain open, until their normal close times.

    Yours sincerely

    Mrs Layley

    Acting Headteacher

    News for Year 4

Your child is coming home with a letter updating you on swimming this year.

Further to this, on occasional times throughout the year, we will be watching movies, either to supplement the curriculum, or as a reward for positive behaviour. Since many of their favourite movies are rated PG for parental guidance, we need your permission to allow your child to watch these movies. We assure you that we will watch only age-appropriate material that has been screened by one of the teachers in the year group.  Should you not want your child to watch a PG please email in or speak to your child's class teacher as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued support.    Many thanks

    Happy Monday everybody!

Covid test results…. Please tell the office…

Just a gentle reminder that if your child has been isolating because they, or a member of their bubble, is waiting for a Covid test result – we would be grateful if you could inform the school office of the result, either by telephone or email, before sending your child back in to school. Thank you.

    Dear Fair Oak Family,

    Happy Wednesday everybody!

Reminder… Non uniform day… this Friday 4th December

…for the Christmas Fayre which takes place on Tuesday 15th December, the children can bring in a voluntary chocolate contribution or bring in £1.

I would like to say that as a school we are all working exceptionally hard to ensure that children and staff are staying safe whilst receiving a full well-rounded curriculum and their safety and mental health/well-being is paramount. Every decision made is carefully considered and acted on with the children as well as staff safety in mind. We as a school, have decided against Christmas cards this year. This is to protect everyone. We are working hard to make sure that the children are engaged in lots of fun Christmas themed activities. We still have our Christmas jumper day, Christmas lunch, Nativity play (albeit different conforming to government guidelines), the year 6 Christmas cake making as well as the Christmas fayre (again different to previous years due to COVID restrictions). So, other than the Christmas cards we have kept all other activities we normally do in place. There are always possible ways to reduce the risk from Christmas cards being brought in regarding COVID 19 but this is still a risk none the less. We have a duty of care to our children and staff which is being upheld.

Thank you to everyone that has ordered Christmas lunches this year. The window for ordering is now closed. We apologise that the dinners are different to normal years but due to increased demand for school dinners on this day we are unable to provide nearly 600 hot dinners delivered to the classrooms with the team we have. Unlike infant schools who provide universal free school meals not all of our children receive a hot dinner daily, meaning we have a smaller kitchen team and all food is delivered to classrooms in line with our risk assessments. This is a very different year but we are always striving to make sure that children have as many of the same experiences as they normally would. Classrooms will be playing music, decorations up and crackers provided for all children. Also, we have had a few queries regarding how to pay – please just top up the children’s dinner accounts as usual in advance of the day. Thank you. (Anyone requiring a link to set up online payment just needs to contact the school office).

    Mrs Layley

    Year 6 Christmas cakes

For your information, the Christmas cakes that the Year 6 children will be making are about 10cm in diameter and will be fine to go home on a plate or a small cake board. Thank you.
