Monday 4^th June

Today our school ‘Bike Crew’ travelled to The New Forest to complete an off road seven mile bike ride. The route included both technical downhill riding as well some tough uphill sections. The Crew all really enjoyed the day which was a great way to celebrate the hard work that they have put in throughout the school year in trying to encourage pupils to cycle to school. Well done Bike Crew!

 

Tuesday 5^th June

The boys cricket season continued today with a tournament held at Lapstone Park between schools from the Hamble and Eastleigh area. The winners of the tournament would progress to the County Finals event later in the school year. Despite playing really well Fair Oak B just could not get a victory in the group stages and lost narrowly to both Stoke Park and then Droxford. Fair Oak A however, beat Netley Abbey by one hundred and twenty seven runs and then Wickham by sixty five runs to set up a semi-final against a very strong St James side. Fair Oak put in a superb performance in this fixture, winning a close match on the last ball by just four runs. Our B team played Hamble for fifth place overall and they got their first victory of the day with an impressive seventy nine run winning margin. Droxford were the opponents for our A team in the final of the competition. Fair Oak bowled first and restricted Droxford to just 222 for 2. However in response, Fair Oak lost wickets regularly against some accurate bowling and unfortunately ended up on 213 for 8 to finish second overall. Well done to both of our superb cricket teams!

 

Friday 8^th June

Star and two time Olympic athlete Tosin Oke put our children through their paces today during a fun-filled day designed to raise money for the school.

The Nigerian athlete, who won a Commonwealth gold and silver led the whole school in a series of sponsored exercises, from star jumps to sit ups, while also teaching our pupils all about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Pupils also got the chance to pose for photographs and quiz the Nigerian athlete on anything from eating to exercise and hobbies to heroes during a special assembly held by Tosin.

A big thank you must go to all of our pupils who participated in the event with energy and enthusiasm and also to the extremely supportive Fair Oak community for contributing to this sponsored event. Please could any outstanding sponsor money be donated online:

Tuesday 12^th June

Fair Oak entered two teams into a girls cricket tournament held today at Botley. Fair Oak B began with an eleven run win against Upham but then lost against Droxford and Botley. This meant that their final fixture of the competition would be against Netley Abbey to play for fifth place. Unfortunately, despite playing some good cricket, our girls just lost out and therefore finished in sixth place overall. Our A team began their campaign with a narrow defeat to Berrywood but followed that up with a comfortable win over Netley Abbey. This meant that they played Botley to decide who would finish in third place overall. Despite our team playing well, Botley ran out winners to leave our A team in fourth place. Well done to all of our girls who put in some great performances throughout the competition.

 

Friday 15^th June

Our year four and five boys played an away football friendly match against Kingsworthy today. The home side took the lead half way through the first half but Fair Oak fought back to level and at half time the score stood at one all. Fair Oak began to assert their authority on the game in the second half and scored a further two goals. Kingsworthy did pull a goal back with the very last kick of the game but Fair Oak were worthy winners by three goals to two. Well done boys!

 

Monday 18^th June

Our boys cricket team continued their Hampshire Cup campaign with their final group stage fixture away to Knightwood today. Fair Oak won the toss and elected to bowl first. Knightwood were restricted in the first third of their innings by some accurate Fair Oak bowling but then scored heavily to end up with a competitive 285 for 5. In response, Fair Oak were put under pressure from the first delivery by some quick attacking bowling and finished with a score of 217 for 8. Well done to our boys who competed well against an excellent Knightwood side.

 

Tuesday 19^th June

Fair Oak entered three teams into a rounders tournament held today on our school field. The competition took a league format where every team played every other team. The side with the most points at the end would be crowned winners. After all the fixtures had been played, Fair Oak B finished in fifth place, Fair Oak C finished in third position while Fair Oak A won the competition with four wins from their four matches. Well done to all of our wonderful rounders players!

 

Thursday 21^st June

Fair Oak had previously qualified for the Hampshire School Games finals at Aldershot army barracks. This annual competition is similar in structure to the Olympics in that there are various teams competing in a variety of sports in arenas across the complex. The athletes involved are the best in Hampshire so the level of competition is fantastic. Our girls football team as well as our athletics team had previously qualified for this finals day which is in itself an amazing achievement!

 

In their first round of group matches, our girls football team beat Kings Furlong by a goal to nil but then lost to Elvetham Heath by the same scoreline. In their final group fixture, Fair Oak drew nil nil with St Bedes despite dominating the match. These results put our girls in second place in the group and they therefore qualified for the Super League and a chance to win the overall competition. In the next pool of matches, Fair Oak began with a nil nil draw with Herne and then drew nil nil with Bishopswood despite having much the better of the fixture. In the final match, the girls lost a close encounter by a goal to nil against Bartley which meant that they just missed out on the semi-finals.

 

Our athletics team performed brilliantly throughout their Quad Kids meet running, throwing and jumping superbly and achieving some PBs along the way. After all of the results had been collated, our team found themselves in 15^th position which is a great result.

All of our athletes who took part deserve a huge pat on the back for the way they persevered in all of their fixtures against some superb opposition. They played with spirit, enthusiasm and passion while always remembering to play their games in the right spirit. We are all very proud of you. Well done!

 

Saturday 23^rd June

The Quays diving centre in Southampton hosted the annual Southampton Inter Schools Diving Competition today. Teams from across Hampshire entered so the standard of competition was extremely high. There were five competition categories with the divers scores from each being added together to decide the final school placings. After all dives had been completed, our team discovered that they had won the overall event! This is the first time that Fair Oak Junior School have won this prestigious tournament. Well done to our fabulous divers who have worked so hard honing their skills for this competition.

 

Tuesday 26^th June

A lower school handball team was entered a festival held today at Wildern School. Berrywood, Netley Abbey, Botley, Freegrounds, Bursledon, Kings Copse and Droxford also attended the competition which gave all of the pupils an opportunity to improve their skills in the sport through a series of fun activities. The festival ended with every team playing two fixtures to put into practice what they had been learning during the earlier part of the event. Both of our teams played superbly and enjoyed the afternoon!

 

Thursday 28^th June

Fair Oak entered two teams into a boys football tournament held today at Berrywood school between other schools from the local area. The competing teams were split into three groups. Fair Oak 1 began with a match against Freegrounds 2 and lost by three goals to one. That was followed by a four nil loss to Boltley 1 which meant that Fair Oak 1 would compete in the Plate Competition in the second phase of the event. Fair Oak 2 began their campaign with a nil nil draw with Berrywood 1 and then beat Stoke Park by two goals to nil. These results meant that Fair Oak 2 qualified for the Cup Competition and would be in with a chance of winning the overall event! In the plate tournament, Fair Oak 1 lost a close game to Stoke Park by a goal to nil and then lost to Berrywood 2 by four goals to nil which meant that they finished in ninth place overall. In the Cup event, Fair Oak 2 started with a convincing three one win over Botley 1 but then lost a close match against Freegrounds by two goals to nil which meant that Fair Oak 2 finished in second place overall. Well done to both of our superb teams for a great footballing display!

Our faces dropped this morning as we walked out the doors of Heald House towards our pain au chocolat breakfast. The sky was grey and rain was sideways. Fortunately for my group our first activity was indoor archery – not all groups were so lucky. By lunchtime though we were sat in glorious sunshine. I went a bit photo mad today as the crate challenge and abseiling provided such perfect opportunities to photograph some very disciplined and courageous children. The instructors were singing their praises for how they conducted themselves and the way in which they efficiently completed the tasks. As tonight was our final night, we enjoyed a roast chicken dinner followed by ice-cream and them made our way down to the campfire. Martin, our brilliant team leader, led us in some very loud, active and silly songs and we shared a beautiful rendition of ‘Tomorrow’ from our upcoming musical Annie. The children have had an awesome time but they are all very much looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. I’m personally looking forward to a sleep in my own soft, non-bunk bed, that doesn’t squeak! Another great day at the manor. I am currently sat on the very peaceful, top floor of Heald House (well almost peaceful - there is some very loud snoring coming from room 19!) thinking about all the awesome activities we have done today. My group had a morning of water-based activities, the first of which was raft building. This was great fun, even though the raft collapsed after five minutes claiming the lives of a camera and a pair glasses as they sunk to the murky depths. Kayaking was far less eventful although Mr Ford did capsize (how embarrassing!) After another delicious Fairthorne lunch, we soon found ourselves on the site's new low rope course. This was brilliant and provided the children with lots of challenge as they spotted and supported each other around the ropes. As we are proud Fair Oakians, we did however get to the point that we needed further challenge and some children were seen accessing the course without even using the balancing wire! The children are all doing great and everyday someone is conquering their fears and overcoming a new obstacle. They are making us very proud. The snoring from room 19 has just settled down so I think I might do the same. Night all!  

We have successfully completed our 1st full day! Staff were greeted by some very excited children in the morning - some as early as 05:30! After a delicious cooked breakfast, we made our way down to a variety of activities. My group and I enjoyed a leisurely row down the river in our katakanus, well at least it was leisurely until somebody started splashing water and starting races (very immature in my opinion!) It was a busy, fun filled day that concluded with some post-dinner races. We have just finished doing the rounds all seems to be quiet in Heald House - I think they might be tired. 

Awesome first day! After a brief tour of the site, the children were straight into their activities. Mr Ford experienced some very messy boys in the team challenge. Unfortunately he then had to hose them down with cold water before they could go inside - what a shame! Out on the lake, others were getting very wet building rafts and improving their paddling skills. After a delicious kebab dinner (jacket potatoes available of course!), we are currently listening to some epic tunes (Well Mr Ford thinks so at least!) while shooting down the aqua slide and leaping about on the bouncy pillow. Lots of pictures and video to follow.

Recently the pupils at Fair Oak Junior School took part in our annual Potted Sports event. The standard of competition was remarkably high with new records being set in many disciplines.
