    Dear Fair Oak Family,

    News for all pupils

What a busy last week of term this has been so far, with the children all able to enjoy the sunshine together before the summer break. Have a safe, healthy, restful time and see you back with us on Monday 6th September. (Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd are inset days).

    • Reminder - Please can we ask that all DFE laptops that were provided for our families to use during the pandemic be returned to school before Friday. There is a legal requirement for these to be returned to school as they will need to be reprogrammed/updated to enable them to continue to be used going forward. We will then be looking into how these will be re-distributed / utilised, in the best interests of pupils here at FOJS.  Thank you.

    STEAM WEEK PHOTO COMPETITION.

An enormous well done to everyone who took part in the STEAM WEEK 2021 Nature inspired photography competition. The competition has shown that there is an incredible amount of talent at FOJS. The standard was phenomenal and I have never seen so many amazing photos. There were over 400 in the end which is incredible.

I had to get some help and enlisted our new Headteacher, Mr Bessant, to judge and I was delighted that Dr Gostling (from Southampton University Biological Science Department) was also able to judge virtually. Both judges judged separately and chose some incredibly worthy winners. Dr Gostling made a video to celebrate the achievements and winners and this was shared with the children at school. He gave a special mention to lots of the fantastic ideas and images. All of the special mentions will receive a little prize.

These are the winners from Dr Gostling:

Year 3 Sam with a very interesting image of a pine cone

Year 4 Ben with a fantastic image of a crustacean

Year 5 Amber with a super image of an insect, which was framed beautifully

Year 6 Izzy with a beautiful photo of a moon over a tree

The winners will receive a STEAM inspired book and their winning images from these 4 children will be made into a framed picture to be displayed in the biological science department. It will undoubtedly inspire the University students to be observant and appreciate the world around them.

Mr Bessant also wanted to judge as he was so impressed at the fantastic work his new pupils had created. He found the task incredibly difficult too but loved looking at each and every photo the children had taken. He created a powerpoint of his winners which were shared with the children at school. The runners up will receive a small prize and the 4 year group winners will receive a STEAM inspired book.

    These are his winners:

Year 3 Heath with a stunning image of a butterfly

Year 4 Emma with a beautiful photo of a bird in the hand

Year 5 Kit with an incredible image of a butterfly

Year 6 Aoife with a wonderful image of a landscape

I will deliver the prizes to the children in their classes either today or tomorrow.

An enormous THANK YOU to each and everyone of you who took part. I can’t wait for next year.

    Mrs Tuxford

    News for Year 3

I can't believe this is the last time I will write about our amazing Year 3 children. It has been wonderful to see them grow and flourish over the year. There have been so many memories but the ones the children mentioned the most were the work achievements and friendships they made. New friendships developed and others flourished, amazing progress was made in all areas of the curriculum and proud faces were seen in lessons and who can forget the brilliant actors and singers back in December for the Nativity 'Children of the World'. I know that the children will continue to make super progress in Y4 and I want to take the opportunity to thank you all for all of your support over the year.

    Mrs Tina Tuxford  Y3 Leader

    News for Year 4

Well, what a year it has been! We have had an amazing journey this year with our Year 4 children. Despite everything the children, their families and the school as a whole have had to deal with they have all been so resilient it has been a pleasure to be a part of it. We have ended our school year with 2 weeks of swimming lessons at Places Leisure, Eastleigh as part of the curriculum. The children have represented Fair Oak Junior School brilliantly, with the swimming coaches even commenting on their good behaviour. We wish them all well in their onward journey to Year 5 in September – we will miss you!

    News for Year 5

In truth, it hasn’t been the year that anyone could have really imagined but despite all the lockdowns, bubble closures, social distancing, face masks, hand washing and everything else – the Year 5 children have been amazing! The Year 5 team are so proud of them all and we know that they will have a fantastic time in Year 6 from September. Good luck Year 5!

Year 5 had a fabulous Viking day on Tuesday – with some impressive-although hot and sticky- looking Vikings invading Fair Oak Junior School!

    News for Year 6

We are incredibly proud of our fantastic year 6 children.  Despite a pandemic, they have had a brilliant Year 6, risen to the challenges we have presented them, and we have felt privileged to have had the opportunity to be a part of their final year at Fair Oak Junior School. They will be sadly missed by us all, and I am sure many a tear will be shed on Friday – by children and parents alike! From the Year 6 team and staff of Fair Oak Junior School, we wish you all the very best. Continue to shine!

    July 2021 Sports News

    Tuesday 6th July 2021

Fair Oak entered two teams into a year three and four golf tournament today which was held at Wildern. Just as for the year five and six tournament last week, all participating teams worked their way around a series of stations which were designed to improve every element of their game from putting to driving with points being scored depending on how well the teams performed at each activity. At the end of the tournament when the team totals had been added together Fair Oak 1 ended up in fifth place with 762 points while Fair Oak 2 finished in fourth with 775 points. Well done to our golfers on another great overall team performance!

    Monday 12th July 2021

Fair Oak took a year 5 girls tag rugby squad to Botley today to play some training matches against year 6 pupils from Botley. Both of our teams performed superbly and benefitted hugely from the session. Our girls really are developing nicely and should head into next year with confidence.

    Tuesday 13th July 2021

Fair Oak entered two teams into a lower school tennis tournament held at Wildern School. The standard of play was very high and all of our players should be proud of the way they performed. After all of the matches had been played, Fair Oak 2 finished in 5th place and Fair Oak 1 finished 3rd. Well done to all of our players who performed brilliantly throughout the event.

A year 5 team also travelled to St Cross Cricket Club today to participate in a Key Stage 2 cricket festival organised by Hampshire Cricket Club. All participating teams worked their way around a series of stations which were designed to improve every element of their game including fielding, batting and bowling. It was a fantastic event and all of our participating pupils thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon!

They may choose to be a Viking warrior, Viking god/goddess or even a Viking villager. Throughout the day, the children will take part in a variety of Viking activities.  As high temperatures are predicted tomorrow, may we suggest that the children also bring in their PE kits (along with sun cream), to change into in the afternoon as we aim to be out on the field. Thank you.

    Dear Fair Oak Family,

    News for all pupils

Wednesday’s dinner choices in school… Unfortunately, due to an oversight our school kitchen served tuna and sweetcorn pasta instead of bubble salmon today for the red option, apologies on their behalf.

    • Reminder - Please can we ask that all DFE laptops that were provided for our families to use during the pandemic be returned to school as soon as possible and ideally before Friday 16th July. • Due to a bubble closure, Mrs Gowers has made the decision to move the Year 6 awards ceremony to the last day of term (Friday 23rd July). The children will be allowed to sign shirts on this day too so, if you are happy, please send them in with a shirt that they can write on.

As the awards ceremony has been moved, Friday of this week is now free, and we would like to make this a board game afternoon - especially as the weather is supposed to be hot. Therefore, could the children bring in (this Friday) a board game to play within their bubble.

Please also be reminded that there are no Year 6 hot dinner options on Friday – please send your child to school with a packed lunch as we will sit outside and will give the children an ice cream afterwards from the school.

    • Year 6 Update on leaver's hoodies:

The hoodies are in production and the company have said they will be delivered before the end of term. I am in contact with them and chasing for a more precise update and will keep parents informed. Whatever happens, with any child having to self-isolate and missing end of term, I will work with the school and find a way to get your child's hoodie to you.

Some good news is that as the school ordered over 100 hoodies, the company have offered a £1 discount per hoodie, and there is a pot of money leftover in the account. An idea has been suggested to me to donate this money to the school PSA towards the costs of the Yr 6 fun week. If however, a parent would like me to arrange a refund of £1 towards the hoodies they purchased, I can do this only via BACS; please email:

    fojsleavershoodies@gmail.com with the following details:

    Account Name

    Sort Code

    Account Number

by Sunday 18th July. I will arrange any refunds requested early next week, and the rest of the money will be donated to the school PSA by the end of term.

    Thank you.
