Thursday 4th May
The cricket season began today with an away match against Colden Common in the Hampshire Cup. Fair Oak won the toss and elected to bowl first. The decision was a good one as a combination of tight bowling and good catching restricted the home side to 216 for 8. Fair Oak came out to bat with a positive mind set and batted sensibly to reach a total of 228 for 8 which meant they won the match! Well done to all of those who took part today.
Thursday 11th May
Two of our boys football teams travelled to Swanmore College today to participate in an emerging teams football competition amongst schools from the South Eastleigh and Winchester Sports Partnership. In Group 2, Fair Oak 1 played really well but unfortunately they did not get the rub of the green and lost all four of their matches against Freegrounds 2, Durley, Netley and Wellstead. In Group 3, Fair Oak 2 won three and drew once which meant that they topped their group! Both Mr Stredwick and Mr Hill were so proud of the players today. For many it was the first time they had represented our school in a sports competition yet they all showed a fantastic work ethic on the pitch and demonstrated a great sense of fair play throughout, no matter what the results of their fixtures were. Well done boys!
Monday 15th May
Our cricketers played their second group match in the Hampshire Cup today at home to Springhill. The visitors won the toss and bowled first. Unfortunately wickets fell throughout the Fair Oak innings to leave our team on a total of 198 for 8. However, the team responded superbly with the ball, bowling a naggingly accurate line and length thus giving Springhill very few scoring deliveries. Indeed, at the start of the final over, Springhill needed five runs to win. In a really exciting end to the game, it was Springhill who ended up victorious by two runs. Fair Oak will now have to wait on other results to see if they have qualified for the next stage of the competition.
Thursday 18th May
