Dear Fair Oak Family,
News for all pupils
We have included again below, the message about CLASS CHOICES FOR SEPTEMBER
Our teachers are working exceptionally hard to plan for the rest of the term. However, we are also working hard to ensure a smooth transition between all year groups. We are starting to plan our internal transition and part of that includes the classes for next year. Similarly to last year, we would like you to complete the following Survey Monkey form. This will help us with placing children with at least one of their friends next year. Please note that if the survey is not completed, then your child will be placed in a class based on their teacher's knowledge of your child, taking into consideration their social relationships.
If you have any problems completing the survey – please email the office as soon as possible. The survey will close Midday on Friday 28th May.
Year 6 parents do not need to fill out the survey.

Yesterday the children were made aware of their recent SATs style scores as they had worked so hard and were keen to know how well they had done. I am sure they have shared their success with you but I wanted to make it clear that this is not the whole picture of your child and the progress they have made this year. Therefore, the results, along with more information based on the whole year, will be available in the end of year annual report.
We are very proud of the children and the achievements they have made this year especially in light of COVID and lockdown. Well done Year 6!

Dear Parents/ Guardians
Last week the Headteacher recruitment panel consisting of five Governors and supported by the local authority held a two-day interview process to employ a new Headteacher to lead Fair Oak Junior School.
After ratification by the Full Governing Body, I am delighted to inform you that Mr David Bessant will become our new Headteacher from September 2021.
Over the next few weeks, Mr Bessant will be in School often as we prepare for a smooth handover.
Experienced Headteachers will tell you that this year has been the toughest they have ever faced. Here in Fair Oak, we have faced those challenges with an interim leadership arrangement.
Mrs Layley, Mrs Cooper and Mrs Gowers have performed magnificently alongside the Senior Leadership Team over the past year. I am proud of everything they have achieved, from the way they have maintained the School through the building works, looked after our children as they returned to School after such a long period of absence and provided a safe and caring place for the children to learn. Thank you.
Since Mr De Silva’s appointment as Headteacher the School has moved forward in so many ways, with Mr Bessant as our new Headteacher our School and the Fair Oak family will not only be in very safe hands but will continue to prosper and develop.
Mr Bessant has asked me to share the following message with you all…
Dear Fair Oak Family,
I feel incredibly proud and privileged to have been invited to become the next headteacher of Fair Oak Junior School from September 2021. During my time in school last week, I met so many wonderful children who are an absolute credit to their parents, carers and the staff team with whom they work so well. They are polite, hardworking and inquisitive about the world they are growing up in. They are going to be a pleasure to work alongside from September.
It was lovely to meet so many parents on Wednesday morning; thank you for taking the time to share with me what Fair Oak Junior School means to you. I am looking forward to working in partnership with you to ensure that your children continue to thrive as part of the Fair Oak family.
I am going to be joining an ambitious, dedicated and caring staff team who are determined to provide your children with inspirational learning experiences whilst widening their horizons and enabling them to become global citizens who explore their ideas about the world. Mrs Layley and her team have continued to build on Mr De Silva’s excellent work and should be incredibly proud of how they have led the school during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Your school is supported and challenged by a really strong team of governors who I am looking forward to working alongside. Their passion for your school was evident throughout the two days I spent with Rob and his team last week and I was delighted when he asked me if I would accept the opportunity to become your headteacher from September. I can’t wait to get started!
David Bessant
Thank you for your patience over the past year while we have made this appointment. If you have any questions, then please don’t hesitate to contact the office.
Best Wishes
Rob Gardner
Chair of Governors Fair Oak Junior School

Dear Fair Oak Family,
We have had worrying reports of children playing ‘chicken’ with cars on the road whilst walking home. The children are being reminded of the dangers of roads and we will continue to monitor the situation. Please can we ask you to support us with this and also speak with your children around the dangers faced on the way to and from school? Thank you as always for your ongoing support.
News for all pupils
Following our Rock2theBeat tutor performance in school recently, we would just like to remind you that the deadline to sign up to the Rock2theBeat project from September is Friday 7 May. We may not be able to accommodate any sign ups after this date.
Kind Regards,
The Hampshire Music Service Rock2theBeat team
"Rock 2 the Beat"
Our aim is to deliver expert tuition for children in contemporary Rock and Pop music, focusing on both individual skills and playing within an ensemble. The instruments taught as part of the project are electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, drums and voice.
Teaching is via a mix of small group skills-based lessons and whole band sessions. Alongside this, a comprehensive set of resources are available to support learning outside of the sessions, which include song music, instructional videos, technical exercises and backing tracks to practise along to.
The programme is delivered by two experienced HMS teachers who have extensive experience not only in instrumental tuition but also in performance.
Rock 2 the Beat is delivered on a term-by-term basis with a performance at the end of each one, giving the pupils the chance to showcase everything they have learnt to their peers, friends and family.
The cost of Rock 2 the Beat is £25 per month, which is payable by direct debit to Hampshire Music Service. This includes all of the lessons, instrument to take home and practise with and access to all of the resources.
Please sign up using this link: https://forms.gle/yf1BmUseJqeoz4Vt5
Deadline: Friday 7 May 2021
If you have any questions about the Rock 2 the Beat provision, please email on the address below.
Kind Regards,
Greg Walker
Rock2theBeat Team Leader
