  • June Sports News!

    Tue 29 Jun 2021

    Tuesday 8th June 2021

Fair Oak returned to competitive inter school matches with a rounders competition held on our school field for year 6 pupils. The competing teams were split into two leagues with each team playing every other team in their league. Fair Oak 1 began with a hard fought win over Botley by 3 ½ rounders to 3. Berrywood 2 were the next opponents and Fair Oak ran out winners again, this time by 5 rounders to 2. The final group match was against Durley 1 and it was our opponents who came out on top by 5 rounders to 1 ½ . Fair Oak 2 began with a 4 – 3 loss to Freegrounds and then followed that up with a draw with Berrywood 1. The final fixture against Durley 2 ended in a convincing 6 ½ to 3 ½ win for Fair Oak. These results meant that both Fair Oak teams finished in second place in their groups and would meet in the third place play off game. In that match, Fair Oak 1 just pipped Fair Oak 2 to third place winning the match 4 – 3. Well done to all those participating players for a fabulous return to competitive school sport!

    Tuesday 15th June 2021

It was the turn of our year 4 rounders teams to play their tournament today. The competition took the same format as the year 6 event. Fair Oak 1 began with a 4-2 loss to Freegrounds, but then won 3½ to 2½ against Berrywood 2. Unfortunately in the final pool match Fair Oak 1 lost to Durley 1 by half a rounder. Fair Oak 2 began their fixtures with a loss by one rounder to Botley, but then won their final two games against Berrywood 1 and Durley 2. These results meant that Fair Oak 1 finished third in their group and Fair Oak 2 won their pool, from Botley on rounders scored. Therefore, Fair Oak 1 would meet Berrywood 1 in a play-off for fifth place, while Fair Oak 2 qualified for the final which would be against Durley 1. Fair Oak 1 played superbly to comfortably beat Berrywood 1 by a scoreline of 5½ to 2½. The final was a very closely contested game, but Fair Oak 2 just edged out Durley 1 to win the event with a scoreline of 4½ rounders to 4. Well done to all those pupils who took part!

    Tuesday 22nd June 2021

Fair Oak entered a two cricket teams into a cricket tournament held at the Lapstone Park playing fields between schools from the South Eastleigh and Winchester area. In their pool, Fair Oak 2 won one game and lost three which meant that they finished fourth in their pool and would play Berrywood 1 in a play off for seventh place overall. Unfortunately, Fair Oak narrowly missed out in this match scoring 232 for 2 against Berrywood’s 242 for 4 which put them in eighth place overall. Fair Oak 1 won all of their group matches which meant they qualified for the final where they played Berrywood 2. In a rather one sided match, it was Fair Oak who came out on top scoring 233 for 0 while Berrywood scored 189 for 4. Well done to both of our superb cricket teams!

    Tuesday 29th June

Fair Oak entered two teams into a year five and six golf tournament today which was held at Wildern. All participating teams worked their way around a series of stations which were designed to improve every element of their game from putting to driving with points being scored depending on how well the teams performed at each activity. At the end of the tournament when the team totals had been added together, Fair Oak 1 ended up in 8th place with 500 points while Fair Oak 2 finished 4th with 676 points. Well done to our golfers for a great overall team performance!

    News for all pupils

Happy Monday, hopefully you have all had a relaxing weekend and the children are ready for another busy week of learning!

    • Menu choice changes for Wednesdays - Our school kitchen will be offering either pizza or bubble salmon every Wednesday instead of the published menu choice until the end of term (alongside the baked potato option)

    • After recent communications via Oak Bites, we are unfortunately still receiving lots of calls/concerns about a lack of road safety with some of the children. Please take the time to talk to your children about keeping safe and making sensible choices if walking on their own to school. Thank you.

    Dear Fair Oak Family,

    News for all pupils

Happy Wednesday - Sunshine at last!

We just have a couple of reminders for you today which we would be grateful if you could take note of.

    • Please take care when parking in nearby roads and respect our neighbours. It is very important that emergency vehicles always have enough room to access nearby properties as well as local residents being able to leave and return to their homes unhindered. Thank you for your support.

    • Fair Oak Junior School is a nut free school. Please ensure that any sandwiches or snacks etc., brought into school by the children are nut free. We have several children in school with nut allergies and epi pens so this is vitally important. Thank you once again for your support with this.

  • Smile for Fair Oak Junior School

    Wed 16 Jun 2021

Fair Oak Junior School needs your Smile!
The Parent Staff Association has just signed up with Amazon Smile.
What does this mean for you and your child(ren)?
When you shop with Amazon you are given the option to choose a “smile” charity, if you choose Fair Oak Junior School Parent Staff Association it means Amazon give us a contribution every time you shop. It doesn’t cost you a penny, Amazon make the donation, but the more you shop the more you help.
What is the PSA and why should I help?
The PSA is the group of staff and parents that raise money to help the children in our school with a range of activities and equipment. Our activities have been curtailed by Covid recently, but we help purchase things like the outdoor gym equipment, golden ticket books, IT equipment etc. We also subsidise many school trips and visits from authors, sports people etc. As you are probably aware school funding is always very restricted, so we try to fill the gap to ensure that the children in our school don’t miss out on the fun activities that the budget doesn’t stretch to.
    How else can I help?
At present the PSA is running with a very depleted skeleton of volunteers due to Covid. This means that, once the restrictions are lifted, we won’t be able to run our usual offering of events such as the Summer Fayre, Fun Run, Discos etc. If you are able to help, even for an hour or two on an ad-hoc basis, it would make a huge difference to the support we can give to the children. Please email a.holbrook-bull@fairoak-jun.hants.sch.uk if you are able to help in any way.

    • Peake class will be going on their ‘crazy golf’ visit to Hedge End golf centre tomorrow afternoon. We would recommend – with the hot weather that has been forecast - the children wear their PE kits to school, (Fair Oak PE kits only, no football kits or personal sportswear). We would also suggest that the children bring sun hats and sun cream. We would advise the same for the subsequent visits to Hedge End golf centre for Valentina on the morning of Monday 21st June and Jemison class on the morning of Tuesday 22nd June, depending on the weather on those dates. Thank you.

    Dear Fair Oak Family,

    News for all pupils

It has been lovely welcoming the children back after a lovely sunny half term break. We hope you were all able to make the most of the warmer weather with the children.

As part of our STEAM fortnight, don’t forget it starts with a Science Competition!

This is a photography competition with prizes to be won! How do I enter, I hear you cry? The theme of the recent mental health week was nature and I want the children to observe and embrace nature through science for this challenge. It may be a photo of a flower in the garden, an interesting looking tree on a walk with the dog, fish in the river, a robin feeding after the rain, a rainy day rainbow, amazing patterns in the clouds, woodlice under a tree stump, your bug hotel or anything else you can think of. It could be a photo of a scene, you, your family or your pets enjoying nature or wild nature. It really is up to you. I really hope you enjoy being nature detectives, observing the colours and things around you and being out and about in nature whether it is sunny or rainy.

What do you need to do?

Take a photo of something with a nature theme. Print it off and to bring it into school to give to Mrs Tuxford or email it to the office for the attention of Mrs Tuxford. Judging will take place after the closing date and the winning entries will be awarded a prize. Good Luck.

Entries close on Thursday 17th June and you can enter as many times as you want.

I can’t wait to see your photos.

There is something to be wondered at in all of Nature Aristotle

Mrs Tuxford, teacher and year leader
